Type of a scam Utility

On March 14, 2017, my office was called by a person identifying himself as Kevin from S.M.U.D. He said our electricity was going to be turned off in 45 minutes. When asked why, he responded that we had been late in our payments. He also said the only way to avoid having the electricity turned off was to pay the unpaid amount in cash. He was asked again if he was calling from S.M.U.D.; he paused and said, "Yes." But, then he hung up.

As a note, our S.M.U.D. bill is on autopay. It sounded very suspicious. However, the implication of having my office electricity abruptly turned off was quite alarming.
