Type of a scam Home Improvement

I was contacted by phone, addressed by name Andy told this company needed to come out and replace a water heater or water meter vent. I was told the repair will take about 45 minutes. When I questioned I was told that when a tech came out recently this was noticed but the tech did t have the parts in hand so was returning. I was offered a choice of several two hour time slots. No call back number. And I was told the tech would not call ahead, that they would simply show up within the window.

Two weeks later realize I will not be available on this date and try to find out how to cancel. I called CenterPoint Emergy, my gas company, and the have no record of this and do not recognize it, also they state the wi Dow is too small, they use four hour windows and they always call ahead. I called my city. Municipal water since it is related to the water meter. They also have no knowledge and no record of contacting me and the say my water meter is working fine. And no one has been here to service the water meter for four years, nor the water heater.

Must be a scam.

If I were to be home, I would absolutely and routinely check the identification of any technician who wanted to enter the house to do work.

I spent over an hour on the phone with various people today and I have no way to contact this company that says they are coming to do an unnecessary repair requiring access to my home. If I could I would cancel the appointment.
