Poverty Alleviation Funds

Shawn – Aug 23, 2020

Victim Location 99501

Type of a scam Government Grant

An account pretending to be an online acquaintance of mine was trying to tell me about something called Poverty Alleviation Funds. The account had recently added me and when I asked them to tell me how they know me they became offended. They used instagram to approach me. The fund allegedly provides assistance to pay bills, settle debts, buy homes, start a business, go to school or help with old age and retirement. The sender told me that they received $25,000 that they do not have to pay back and got really offended when I told them I wasn’t interested. They then asked if they should forward me the link of the agent that helped them apply so I can apply too. They insisted that they would never lie or share incorrect information although I never accused them of that. At this point I blocked them.

Note: I am not in the United States but the person who added me must have assumed that since I am an online acquaintance of the US-based person they are pretending to be.
