I have received multiple letters in the mail for "DEMAND OF PAYMENT" for a traffic citation that took place over 2 years ago. The letter states that I will have my license revoked and additional court fees if I do not pay $156.00. Luckily, I still have the actual receipt of payment filed from the circuit clerk that shows that the citation has been PAID IN FULL for over 2 years. I finally decided to call the phone number on the letter just a few minutes ago (855) 287-3181 just to see how the call would start. Immediately the person was asking for my personal identifiable information "name, birthday, address….." I told them that before I gave them any information about myself that they already have, they should know that I w[censored]ding my proof of payment receipt in my hand. The collector immediately told me that she was terminating the phone call because I would not give her my birth date.
I don’t think any REAL collection agency would hang up on someone who legitimately owed them money.
My advice to anyone is to not give out any personal identifiable information, and keep your proof of payments filed!!!
