Received a call from the phone number listed here. CallerID identified the call as from an individual — not PGE. Caller said his name was ‘Gavin’ and he was calling from PGE customer support. He said I may be eligible for a $50 gift cert or $50 off my utility bill. He asked to confirm my name (he knew it) and address (he knew it). Sounded like a busy call center. He asked for my PGE account number to confirm eligibility. I said I don’t know it. He said this was a one time offer and he would wait for me to go get my utility bill.

Thinking it was a scam, I asked for a call back number. He re-iterated that he would wait for me to go get my utility bill.

I asked why he was calling from a number that wasn’t registered as PGE. He said, "thank you for your time sir," and hung up.

We received three calls, about two and one half hours between each, claiming to be an automated call from PG&E stating our electricity would be shut off in thirty minutes due to a "pending" account problem. The call advised that we should immediately contact the "direct customer" support line at 1-844-313-4985. After repeating the phone number three times and advising to write it down, the caller then says "Thank you for choosing PG&E".

Obviously someone may fall for this, even though PG&E is currently advertising that they are, for the moment, not shutting off power for missing payments.

Person called stating they were from PG&E. Said a technician was on their way to my address to disconnect electricity. Claimed that the only way to prevent disconnection was to go to either cvs or Walgreens and get a prepaid card, which had to be purchased using cash. Once I purchased the card I was to call back and give them the information, thus calling off the technician and preventing my electricity being turned off. Scammers were very good at attempting to convince me they were truly with PG&E. I kept telling them it sounded like a scam and they assured me it wasn’t. Thankfully I didn’t fall for this scam. We called pg and e and they confirmed that the scam was running rampant in the area.

My Oregon business received a phone call on 4/25/15 stating the caller was the utility company, and they would shut off our electricity at 1:30 p.m. We were told to go to Safeway to wire them some money in order to keep our electricity on. We asked to talk to a supervisor, but the caller said they were on a break. Finally, we called our utility company’s emergency number, and we learned they don’t shut off service on weekends—and furthermore, we had already paid our bill at the beginning of the month. Fortunately, we had not wired any money to the scammers.
