Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
A student, Austin, was selling a bow on a local FB buying/selling page. "Peter James" offered to buy the bow. He offered to send the money in check form to Austin first and then he’d send him the bow. Once he gave a local mailing address, "peter james" responded with a text that was easy to see English wasn’t his first language. Austin recognized it as a scam because he used the terms "courier" and just the awkwardness of the text. Austin immediately said sorry but the bow is sold. 3 months later, we receive a check in the mail for $1650.00 and a label we’re supposed to use to send the bow. Of course we knew enough not to mail check. The mailing address on the label was Tractor Supply Co in Grayson GA. We called them and they knew nothing about this. Austin then received a threatening text from "Peter James" that needed to cash the check because he’s in touch with the FBI, POLICE AND CIA. Talked to local police and they said to report it on here.
