PayPal Spoof

Natasha – Mar 30, 2020

Type of a scam Phishing

I have attached a screenshot of an email claiming to be PAYPAL but is in fact fraudulent

The email is showing the sender’s name as "[email protected]?ay??pal.c?om" which is one of Paypal’s email address. However, that is just a disguise because the actual email address of the scammer is "[email protected]". The email was also sent to a large number of email addresses so it’s obviously a part of mass marketing fraud

It seems apparent that scammers are getting smarter (or they try to). Be safe!

The scammer is using paypal’s name, saying you’ve been charged from playwith Interactives, Inc. email is obvious scam, they ask you to open a dispute with their resolution center if you have a problem with the 225,000 charge. Just check the address and you’ll see it’s not coming from paypal.

Type of a scam Online Purchase

I had an ad on kijiji far a combine for sale. He replied and wanted to buy it. He claimed he was working offshore but wanted it. He wantef to pay with paypal and would send a courier to pick it up. They then want more pics of the combine to see it better. Then decide to rake it. An email comes from paypal that you have recieved a payment andt the hipper is responsible for the shipping costs and transfer fees totaling $1100.00 and you need to send that by western Union or Moneygram so they can release your funds to your Paypal account.

I have received 3 different emails, claiming to be from PayPal. Each tells me that I have made a transaction from – then lists the business – all three emails have used a different business. Then it tells me that if I have not made this purchase to contact the help centre at paypal, for which there is a link in the email. i can also click on another link that is called Preference Centre.
