I was trying to retrieve my paypal account. I search in Google to find the paypal contact number, 1-888-221-1161. It was a tech support guy sound like he’s Indian accent. He says that in order to change the old phone number on it so that I can change the password I have to download a program from the Google app called techsupport. Its a program where they r connected to you and watch what you are doing. He says that this will guide me through it better this way to help me to resolve my issue of my paypal account. He says that I need to link this to my Wells Fargo account. I login my account and he made me do a Zell transaction 499 dollars to a name Angeliquegardner. He says it won’t take any money this is just to verify the link, this is only a example, if taken then he will reimburse my money. It happen, my money was gone and he says that my account was use by 3 others and they took my money. He says that to catch these guys I have to go to the store and purchase 2 gift cards Google 200 dollars each and this will show my location and help to track the 3 people, after he had the information of the 2 Google cards he transfer me to the manager and his name john miller. He ask me to do Google search and typed geektyper and click it and click script file and click map file. It shows a graph of the world and he says that my phone is locked becuz the 3 people that use my paypal account has share my wellsfargo account to the world of 11 of there members, and he says to get rid of them I need to go to different stores and buy 11 cards 200 dollars each. That’s when I hang up and quickly called my bank account, and reported this to the police, also bought new phone. I lost 400 dollars because I bought those Google cards. But the 499 that was still pending transaction, was blocked by my bank and returned that my money to my account. These programs are called quicksupport in Google pay, and geektyper needs to be ban and taken out of the internet system before more people are going to get hurt like me. I was crying and smoking and drink very hard, very emotion stress. I feel like I lost a peace of my soul.

After answering the man spoke low and there was feedback like if another person was listening. He stated that I paid $200 or $300 and that to begin a refund process to get the money back. He mentioned of another person getting a refund and it was simple. I told him I don’t know about a PayPal account and he said maybe I had an account open. He tried to explain to do the refund but I told him I’m uncomfortable with the call

Received email titledPayPal – Support stating I sent a payment of $489.99 to InfoHub Computer Support. When I called to dispute charge, realized it was not PayPal because they were requesting I close current account and reopen another because hackers had accessed it. He said they could not do anything over the phone, that I had to have access to my computer. I was driving at the time so told them I would call back in about an hour. They called my cellphone 17 times before I got home. When I arrived home I called them back and I asked how any charges were approved to begin with since I have 2 step verification process, to which they replied, someone called in pretending to be you and gave info. They then informed me that there were two additional charges and one pending totaling over $1000. I kept requesting they just reverse the charges since it was not me, they kept insisting I close account and reopen one. As I was on phone with them I logged into my PayPal account and saw no such charges, and questioned them about that. To which they replied it takes several days to process. I asked how it could not yet be processed but yet they were willing to ‘refund’ the money. He then asked that I log on to anydesk.com. I refused saying I would not allow remote access to my computer. He started to become irate. I kept questioning who they were with, and he kept avoiding answering, just continuing demands. At which point, I informed him that I was calling the police and he hung up. The number that kept calling me was 805-953-7011

A few things here.

1. Paypal will never send you a bill from another service (Norton for example). These companies have paid subscriptions that are either monthly or annually billed and they have internal departments that would handle this.

2. This is coming from a gmail account not a paypal.com account

On face book it was listed as Malwarebytes free down load I did a down load and thought it was fine. Looking at my e-mails I discovered a company called Micro Tech Computer Security LLC associated with pay pal. They were going to charge me $245.97. I contacted the number provided and they did not answer the phone as paypal, sounded funny, asked me for purchase number, which I gave, then they wanted to access my computer, I refused. I then contacted pay pal who confirmed that I did not have an account with them as I told them that. Had contact with Malwarebytes who said they would do a scan to see if I was infected. Have not heard from them. Contacted my bank, does not show a charge, and contacted my credit card company, they confirmed no charge, I am receiveing these e-mails and I am concerned as Maywarebytes has not contacted me. I believe they are a scam and using pay pal as their back up assuming everyone has one, and or trying to access the computer on pretense that they will refund the charge, which I now know would give them access to everything that I have on it. Please check them out as I am very concerned. Thank you

I had a negative balance in my PayPal so I called them seeking to resolve this quickly. Looking back I definitely called the wrong number. I’m so exhausted with the whole thing now. The person on the other end answered as a PayPal and asked for my name and email address. The guy told me I needed to load 100 on a google play card and they need the code on the back to secure the account because it looked like more than one IP address logged into my PayPal account. Said that someone from South Dakota and Nebraska accessed my account. He kept asking if I shared my password with anyone else. I kept saying no. I also told him I don’t have the money to put on a google play card and he said that the money would be refunded and the negative balance will also be resolved. He also told me that PayPal was recently compromised which is why I see the negative balance. When I bought it and gave the code on the back he then transferred me to someone named Jason Trautman who said he is one of the Senior representatives for PayPal at the corporate office. He gave me an employee ID 14905 and the corporate address for PayPal. He told me I would need to get two more cards and give the “security code” on the back saying it’ll secure my PayPal account and no one else will to be able to access it again. Once is provided the last two numbers, I was put on hold for more than 20 mins and then the line disconnected and I could get an answer again.

Initially, I wanted to transfer Paypal funds to my bank. I searched for the customer service number on Google and chose the top searched number. A man was attending my call for 4 minutes and then the call dropped. I tried the number again and asked if the same person could help, but the call dropped again after 44 seconds.

A few minutes later I realized that I had 5 missed calls from the same number.

When I returned the call a man by the name of Leeroy Johnson attended my request, but he said that my paypal account was on hold since it was not verified. To verify my account and transfer my $232.74 to the bank he said that I had to match that amount. So, he asked me to purchase $250 worth of Google Play Cards from either Dollar General, Walgreens, or Walmart. Since I was fresh to the whole Paypal process, I went ahead and followed every single instruction. When I would buy the cards, he would ask me to give him the scratch-code in the back. Then he would say that the servers were not accepting some of the cards, so he would generate a refund-text-message to my phone saying that my money was refunded to my paypal account, which I was locked out of because he had already switched my password. However, I didn’t realize that he had done so until everything happened.

After I told him that I had no more money to purchase cards, he said that a $2750 refund was ready to be sent from my paypal account for all the cards I had purchased, but that I had to pay $550 for taxes since it would be an overseas transaction. And that I would get refunded the $550 the next day.

Next, I called my sister to see if she could loan me the $550 for taxes, but my sister made me realize that it was a huge scam. She called another Paypal rep, and they said that their verification process did not involve buying Google Play Cards. She even spoke to the scammer, but he would reply to every question calmly and professionally as if he was a Paypal rep. We finally hung up the phone, but then he called twice until my sister said to stop calling.

He was on the phone with me for 4 hours, making me drive around different stores to buy Google Play Cards. I bought a total of 16 cards. I already closed my bank account and filed a police report. I have all the evidence. I will be pressing charges.

I was locked out of my PayPal account. I called a number from my google search that said PayPal official site. The FAKE PayPal representative told me that he needed a Google Play code in order to unlock my PayPal Account. He told me to go to the store and purchase a $75.00 Google Play card and give him the code on the back. when I did, he told me that the code did not work and purchase another card for $100. He had just took the money off the Google Play card that I just purchased for $75.00. I then realized I got scammed. When I called the FAKE PayPal number, he know my address, cell number, the accounts linked to my PayPal account. I thought he was legit.

I went to google and typed in PayPal. I saw the number listed above and called. Someone instantly answered, I heard multiple people talking in background. I expressed my concern of a payment not being applied to my paypal account. I was asked to verify my name, number, and address. I did so. I was then sent a text message in which I was told it was a security code and to tell them the code when I got it, which was 013405 and said PayPal, I did so. At this time the person was able to see my PayPal account. Told me of payments and purchases I had made and then informed me the payment that was not applied went to Nigeria. I was then told to go to Safeway and purchase a $100 google card and call back, give him the data and the amount would be applied to my account. That made no sense. I asked him what his name was, he said Daniel Johnson. Because he had such a strong accent, I did laugh and say really, then what department do you work in with PayPal. He hung up. I looked at my phone and had a notification that my PayPal password had been changed. I called the number on the notification. I found that who ever the person was accessed my paypal account and changed the password.

PayPal Fiasco – January 29, 2019

1) Googled for phone number for PayPal.

2) Got number 888-738-1421

3) Called that number. It was answered ag PayPal, Steve speaking.

4) I explained that I was expecting a PayPal payment of between $4700 – 5,000. I asked if there would be a charge to me for this transfer. Answer was NO. Steve than asked if there was anything else, he could help me with. I told him that I hadn’t used PayPal for some time, that I had confirmed that the account was still open, but that I needed to update the banking and credit card information. Steve said that it wasn’t a problem, but he could help me.

5) He explained that I needed to get my account verified and that I needed an authacation #

6) Steve said that I get an authacation # card at Kroger, Walgreens, or Walmart. He told me not to hang up, but to drive to Kroger, and he would tell me how to get the card. I drove to Kroger, Steve told me to go to the gift card rack. I did. He told me to find the authication card from PayPal. Told him that I didn’t see any, and he asked if there were Google Play cards. He asked what domination, and I told you 10-500. He told me to take the 10-500 card to checkout, but not to tell them that I was using it for authacation because they would charge sales tax.

7) After I paid for the card, Steve told me to go back to my car. He asked me how I had paid for the card and he wanted the last four #’s. I told him I used my Chase Card with ending #’s- 4231. He had me scratch off the code # and read it to him. The told me not to leave the parking lot, and he was moving the authacation process along.

8) A lady then came on the phone, said that I needed to get another card to complete the authacation process. I complained a bit, but she assured me that I was the only way I could get my account approved to accept the large some of money. I went back into Kroger, and purchased another $500 Google Play card. She told me to return to the car again. She wanted to know how I had paid and the last 4 #’s. I gave her my Capital one #’s – 6254. She also had me scratch off the numbers. I gave the numbers to her, and she said that the number was incorrect. I reread it to her. She said that the second reading was correct, but that because of the mistake I had made, her computer had locked up. She said that the only way I could get the account opened, was that I had to go get two more cards.

9) I told her I wasn’t going to do it, and let’s stop the process. She said again, that I wasn’t spending money, because all the card purchased were going to be applied to my account when it was opened and approved. I told her I wasn’t buying more cards. She transferred me to a man was said that he was in charge of the credit department.

10) I was standing in Kroger’s telling the man that I was done buying cards, and he could open the account of forget it. While I was talking to the man, a Kroger employee came up to me and told me that I stop because I was being scammed. I told the guy what I had just been told, and he said , OK he had approved my account and it was open, and that the money had been put into the account. I asked him how he was crediting my account since I hadn’t given an account number, so he asked for my checking # and I gave it to him. At that point he said to finish, I had to buy one more card for $300. At that I told him is over, and I hung up.

11) I rushed home and phoned Google Play card and talked to Amy. She checked the codes on the cards, and found that the $ was gone. She wrote up a report for their security dept. and send me an email regarding what I should do including filing a report with FTC. (Copy of her email attached.)

12) We called Capital one and Chase bank and let them know what had happened. They both filed reports, and closed the credit cards.

13) We then called Chase Bank and had the checking account closed also.

14) Got a different number for PayPal 888-221-1161. Called them to see if by any chance I had been dealing with them. They said that is the way they do business.

15) I started checking my email account, and found emails from [email protected] regarding: a) my password had been changed, b) someone had cancelled an agreement between eBay and PayPal on my behalf.

16) My google email password had be changed also. I had my grand-daughter help me and we got the google account straightened out.

17) My PayPal account is still on hold.

18) I filed a report with the West Chester Police. Report # 19-0335

19) I have dialed the number 888-738-1421 twice since above activity, and each time the phone is answered as PayPal. Each time a male answered. Different names.

Type of a scam Nigerian/Foreign Money Exchange

I received a message off of "Let go" in reference to someone wanting to buy my phone. He said hed pay over the amount that I listed the phone for, plus shipping costs. He stated that it was for his son for his birthday. We exchanged phone numbers and I gave him my paypal email since we was very adimant on using paypal for the transaction. He told me "paypal is reliable" Or something along those lines to convince me to use it for our transaction. He started texting me and pushing me to rush the process. Then while I was at the post office (he told me to ship it through USPS express) I received an email supposedly from PayPal. He told me that it was an email from PayPal and told me to ship it to the location stated in that email which was in Africa Nigeria. He then told me that once I ship the phone, I just click the link in the email "Reply the shipping tracking number here to proceed with the payment." He then told me that once I shipped the phone, and gave him the tracking number, that the money would then show up in my PayPal account. I then googled the address that he wanted me to ship the phone to which I found out was not a real mailing address/location. Immediately I knew it was a scam. Once I stopped responding to his texts he called me twice, and texted me multiple times saying "hello?" "Whats the update?" Etc. I never responded and he never was able to scam me. Please be aware from these fake transactions. PayPal never requests for tracking information before you receive any money!

I believe the attached email might be a fraudulent PayPal email. See screenshot attached. After doing some research I came across guidance from the ScamPulse.com which recommends forwarding said “fraudulent email” to [email protected]

These are my repro steps performed prior to suspecting the below email was fraudulent. These steps were all performed on my mobile phone. I clicked the link below (outlined in orange) and entered my paypal username and password. I didn’t take any further action on the portal after this.

When I forwarded the “fraudulent” email to [email protected] I got an error message and when I check my sent folder, the “To” line indicates “No recipient”. Now I’m unclear if “[email protected]” is even a legitimate email account. Please help!!

*At the time of submitting this note, I have not lost any money but will keep monitoring my accounts.Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
