Type of a scam Employment

I have been actively seeking employment and have placed my resume with several online job search sited. This scam came through Indeed.com. I was offered a job with what appeared to be a legitimate company called Nova Scotia Construction LTD. It is a company from Nova Scotia Canada who supposedly is expanding into the US. It looks like a legitimate website, but it turns out it isn’t. After a week of email communications I was asked if I would like the position of Administrative Assistant. I accepted the job offer I was sent a cashiers check for $4880 (overnight) to be used for the purchase of office supplies and to reserve hotel rooms for the employees that would be coming to the US. I was instructed via email to deposit the money into my personal account and to then send a copy of the deposit slip so the accounting department could update their records. I took the check to the bank and deposited it into my account and was about to send the scanned copy of the deposit slip to the HR Manager of NS Construction when M*** from the bank called me and told me that they investigated the check and found out it was a bogus check. Apparently I am not the first victim of this scam. I’m so glad I didn’t have a chance to finish that email. They would have had my banking information. After I got off the phone with M***, I decided to call the HR Manager myself to let him know what the bank had said. He was pleased to hear from me and even happier when I told him I received the check and deposited it into my account. I then told him that I was told by the bank teller that the check was bogus. His response to that was to clear his throat and hang up on me. That action in itself was enough to tell me it was definitely a scam. The way the scam works is that they send you a check for a certain amount and then turn around and tell you that they sent too much and need you to return x amount via a cashiers check to them. You then find out that the check is bogus and then you are out the x amount of dollars that you sent back to them. Then they take the money and run. Also they have your banking information from the copy of your deposit slip so they can continue to steal from you. If you have an account on indeed.com or any other job site, be aware that there are scams going on. Even if the company seems legit, it could be a fraud. Be careful. The sad thing is many many people are falling victim to people who prey on the unsuspecting and they use legitimate companies to do it or build websites that appear to represent a legitimate company to reel you in. Please, just keep your guard up and protect yourselves from people like these who couldn’t care less about you, your family, or the harm he causes with this scam.
