PRIVATE AND PERSONAL LETTER Letter received says,
"Dear ***,
I am an accountant & banker and work for one of these financialinstitutions in Canada. I am aware this letter has come to you as a surprise as we have not met or handle any business dealings in the past. Nevertheless, I have contacted you with genuine intentions. I got your contact information when going through an old file of one of my deceased clients by the name of *** *** a US citizen who lived here in Canada for over 2 decades prior to his death. He died a few years ago.
Our financial institution (claims dept) has issued me a notice to provide the beneficiary of his estate unclaimed life insurance masterpiece fixed deposits of US $3.2MM. By law any unclaimed deposit proceeds that have been left with a holder without activity or contact for 10 years: the holder must transfer the unclaimed proceeds to the Treasury Division as unclaimed funds. Unfortunately, he had no will on his account leaving the acct with an open beneficiary. I have made several inquiries to find any of his immediate relatives with no success. I have tracked his last name in a data base to see if I could find any of his immediate family members. This has also proven unsuccessful. After unsuccessful attempts therefore, I would like to seek your assistance in repatriation of those funds. Using your name as the beneficiary to this unclaimed fund because I believe you are one of his extended relatives and you bare same last name with him.
All arrangements to secure the unclaimed funds have been put in place and I guarantee you that the proceeds of these unclaimed funds would be released to you as his beneficiary. There is no risk involved, no litigation as I have worked out all modalities to complete the process successfully. I shall use the services of a notary here for the purpose of procuring a letter of probate & relevant documents for approval.
