I received a call from a woman claiming to be with the State of Arizona. She was calling to verify my address- as she was to serve me papers.
She then provided me the phone number of (866)343-6290 and told me to call them to see what the debt was for. I was provided a case number as well. I called the number and was informed that I owe on payday loan that was taken out in 2011 in the amount of $600. She said if it goes to court the total cost will be $2648.71 due to legal fees. The amount I was told I owe in total was $1060- but they could break it down to $702 dollars if I paid today, or they can setup 4 payments of around $200 per month. I asked for the original creditor information and was told that her job is not to do my "Leg work" and that I need to figure that out. I asked for a letter of Validation and they did email me a document, but it doesn’t say anything about my rights, or prove the debt it valid in any way.

Called to collect on a non existint debt with a payday loan company and threatens jail time
Trying to sue over something “delinquent in 2016” it’s 2021, I’m in Texas, they can’t. But I love the “we just sue you, good luck” No, good luck to you, if you ACTUALLY tried that, I would actually show up and point that out to the judge.
They can’t throw you or any one in jail…. It’s a sleazy scare tactic……. Honestly…. If what ever you owe is in collections… Your debt has been sold to a sleazy debt collecting company. Sold off at a much lower amount than what you owe…. So the sleazy collection company will call over n over send letters and all kind of scare tactics to get your money….. They will even lie and say pay it now to avoid court fees and stuff….. That’s a bunch of BS….. They will try and say anything to scare you or the person they are on the phone with……. They will even make up amounts higher than what you or the person owes… And say pay now to avoid those fees……. The fees are just made up. They legally can’t say… You owe 400. To avoid tge 1200.00 fees pay now…..
The other thing. You don’t even owe the debt to them…. You actually owe the debt to the company you originally owe and not to them…… They can’t even take you to court….. Because if you said in Court I owe credit card ABC the money…. The Judge legally can not say. Well pay the collection company…. The Judge can’t say that and won’t because you don’t even owe the money to them. You owe the money to who you originally owe the money too……… And if it’s in collections…. The debt been charged off…. So initially you don’t even have to pay it….. And the Collection company that calls you…. The person on the phone you are speaking too are just a customer service rep….. They get a commission collecting…. So lets say you owe 100.00 anf the collection company says pay now avoid fees….. And you pay it….. The debt was sold to them for 20.00 bucks…. So if you pay collections 100.00…. The collection company makes a profit of 80.00…….. The crazy customer rep mades lets say he gets 10%…. For the pay now.. He makes 8.00….. Other thing. Kets say you do pay the 100.00…….. It’s not going to change your credit score at… It’s already been charged off. And paying the creditor they are not going to report it saying it’s been paid of….. They can’t even do it if they wanted too…… Because you actually don’t owe the money to them.
So don’t pay the collection people a cent…… If you do you’re crazy.
How I know this. My roommate used to work for a collection agency. He told me and all the tricks he used to scare people to pay…… We will seize your bank account… Take your car….. Call the police. They can’t and won’t do that. It’s a scare tactic and don’t fall for it.
