Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Had a mower on Southeast Texas.com for sale and was contacted by text using the name of "Mitchell Lewis" that he wanted to buy the mower. Since he lived in Colorado he was going to send a cashier’s check for the amount of the mower. However, he would also need to include the amount to move the mower to Colorado of $2850.00. We thought we were doing the right thing and waiting for the check to clear. Thinking the check had cleared we were in the process of sending the money gram when the manager asked if we were sure the check had cleared because it usually takes longer than 3 days. After checking with the bank, "Pike’s Peak Credit Union" we were informed that the check was indeed fraudulent! Fortunately, we were able to stop the money gram in time and were saved $2850.00. The name used to send the money gram to was Amber McDowell in New Brighton, PA. From now own, we will only accept cash doing business. Hope this doesn’t happen to you!!!
