I want to report unscrupulous and misleading tactics used to trick me into switching satellite carriers.

11/15/17 – approximately 6:30pm

Two gentlemen in red T-shirts came to my door explaining that my DISH Hopper was obsolete, and would need to be replaced with a newer one. They steered the conversation to DISH charges. They said DISH and Direct TV had partnered, and they could give me new customer discounts if I would switch from DISH to Direct TV for 2 years, then switch back to DISH.

Since there was a significant savings, I stupidly agreed. I received a voice mail from "Midwest Satellite" saying I had a lock on my credit, and they couldn’t verify it for a new account. I unlocked the credit for a few minutes, and relocked it. A service technician (Garrett 801-369-4424) came by an hour later and installed A Direct TV satellite dish and receivers for my living room and bedroom. He got the living room one working, but couldn’t get the bedroom receiver to work. He left about 8:30pm, saying he would return the next morning. By noon, I decided he wasn’t coming, and left him a voicemail.

I started to get concerned that I had been scammed, and called DISH (1-844-221-2525). I was connected to Jeanelle in the Fraud Department, who told me there was no such partnership between DISH and Direct TV, and had never been. She said DISH does not send people door-to-door for any reason. She also said my account was still active. She put a lock on it so it could not be cancelled, and arranged for a DISH technician to come by tomorrow and put everything back the way it was.

I called Direct TV (1-888-795-9488) and reported the misrepresentation, and requested to have my account cancelled. I was connected to Accounting, and they cancelled my account. The next day, I received an email from them confirming the cancellation. They told me they would send me a postage paid box to return the equipment to them. I did get charged about $45.00 on my credit card, which I am currently disputing.
