Type of a scam Tech Support

While browsing the internet, my screen froze and a page came up ‘Microsoft Official Support, Do not ignore this critical alert. If you close this page, your computer access will be disabled to prevent further damage to our network. Your computer has alerted us that it has been infected with a virus and spyware. The following information is being stolen: Facebook login, Credit card details, email account login, photos stored on this computer. You must contact us immediately so our engineers can walk you through the removal process over the phone. Please call us within the next 5 minutes to prevent your computer from being disabled.’ There was a toll free number listed as well as a 5 digit computer ID number. I called and was told I had a malware Trojan horse and that it was a network issue. Was told I needed to install a network firewall and he even searched best buy and staples for the best deal for me. I was also told that a ‘Microsoft certified technician level 5’ would have to take care of this issue. He said it would take 60 to 90 minutes to complete remotely for $249.99. After being transferred to the ‘Microsoft Certified Technician’, I was told I could get unlimited technical support, a warranty, and blah, blah, blah, for upwards of $900 and my computer would be fixed. I ended the call and was contacted by phone twice, with a voicemail left from ‘Frank’ saying they needed to fix my computer asap and that the technicians were waiting.
