Mega Millions and Lottery

Haley – Apr 01, 2020

Victim Location 95661

Total money lost $1,900

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes

The scammer called my stepdad and told him he won 2nd place in the mega millions lottery, and they would be delivering him a $450K check to his home address. When they verified the home address, they did not have the right address, so my stepdad corrected them. After the check was not delivered they told him in a couple days they needed $1900 to insure the check to actually deliver, or he could go pick up the check in Las Vegas. When he agreed to drive to Vegas, they told him they could send the check to the Sacramento Airport where it would be waiting in customs. A few days passed and they then said they could deliver the check again for the $1900 insurance retainer, of which he would receive $1800 back. He paid the $1900 by certified check to the address listed above and a payee by the name of James ******. He was provided with two telephone numbers, one has a recording that says it is the Mega Millions and Lottery office, the other recording says the Department of Consumer Affairs. Connor ****** is the "contact" at the Department of Consumer Affairs number.
