Received a call and the caller said she was calling from Medicare . She first tried to verify my name and age asking rapidly if she was right. Next, she wanted to know if I had leg pain or joint pain which I had reported to Medicare and I said no. She then gave an inaccurate social security number with which I am sure she was trying to get me to give my actual Social Security number which I did not reveal. I asked her what the call was about and she started to repeat the leg pain and joint pain nonsense. I could here a lot of noise in the background like a call center. I stopped my conversation and ended the call. The call number appeared to be from my local area!

I just had a young guy come out here, less than 6 foot tall, couple hundred pounds, and drove a fairly new gray challenger. He had a girl with him who was short with glasses. He assured me that it would cost me $144 a month for Medicare. He came to my house in person with a shirt and tie on. His Challenger did not have Medicare on it. I called the ScamPulse.com for help. I live in Granby, MO.

I picked up a landline call as the caller id was a local Omaha number and the last two digits were 00.

Man with foreign accent told me he was calling from the Center for Medicare and he wanted to know if I had received the new plastic Medicare card.

I lied and said yes, which made him pause, but he said it hadn’t been mailed yet because he needed information from me first.

I kept asking what is this about, thinking he was trying to sell Medicare Advantage.

He kept giving me his "government ID number."

He said he had all my information in front of him on a screen. I said if it’s on the screen then why call me. He said he needed verification that the numbers I would give him would match. I said, you read me the numbers. Then I told him I would check out the Medicare website and hung up. I’m worried others would answer the questions and I don’t know how the info is used to cheat the government. Thanks for this ScamPulse.com service.

I was scammed yesterday. I received a recorded call from Medicare on my home phone. It stated we have been trying to reach you. Press one to speak with a representative. I pressed one and a woman came on the line. She said hi and called me by my first name.We have all these different options for Medicare. She asked me to get my insurance card to go over benefits. I said i could not see it. Then she asked for my Social Security number. When I gave her the entire number she hung up. I pushed redial and tried to call the number back. It disconnected. I had my son check the caller ID. He said the number was unknown. I do not have the phone number. I called Social Security and reported it. They put in fraud report. I asked if they would take my Social Security. They said no. I called my bank also.

Call came in this afternoon with a 402 area code but I don’t know where it was actually originated from. Caller spoke with a foreign accent (maybe Asian?; easy to understand) and said she was from Medicare and needed to verify some information with me because they were getting ready to replace our paper Medicare cards with new plastic cards with a chip in them. (New plastic cards with a chip in them sounded like a good idea to me but seemed suspicious since I had not heard anything about this on the news.) She had my full name and full birthdate and wanted me to give her the Part A Hospitalization Effective Date on my card which I refused but she said she had it and just wanted me to verify it with her so she gave me the effective date on my card, which I confirmed was correct. Then she said as the last step in verification, she needed me to give her my Medicare # on my card which I refused to do telling her I didn’t know who she was and Medicare doesn’t normally call. She gave an employee id # and tried to assure me she was from Medicare. I told her to give me the Part B Medical effective date, which she said didn’t have anything to do with it. I told her to give me my Medicare # so I could verify it and she said she needed to enter it into the system from me. I said I was going to call the # on my card instead and she said I could do that but since we were at the last step of this verification, she would need to disable my Medicare until then and it would cost me $100 to re-activate it, of which i said No, Medicare does not do that. She asked to speak with my husband who I said wasn’t home but she could call back later which she said she would. I called Medicare after we hung up and confirmed with them they are not sending out new plastic cards with chips in them and he (Jorge) was 100% sure it was a scam. I called ScamPulse.com to report it to see if they have received other reports of this and if not, to let them know as I don’t want other seniors to fall into this scam since she sounded very professional and seemed legit since she had my Part A Hospitalization effective date, which I assume now is probably related to my birthdate. Of course she never called back.

Scammer then asked for the name and number on the card. I advised him that he called me and had my information in his computer. He said he needed to verify it. He asked if I was (my name), and I asked "who is this"? He kept saying this is Medicare. He said I’d been having trouble and seen a doctor for back pain and knee pain. I did not confirm that. I asked him why he was calling from a local number? Then he tried to tell me that he was from Medicare’s "Pain Department". I told him to give me Medicare’s number and I would call Medicare. He kept talking over me, telling me he was from Medicare’s Pain Department. I never confirmed my name, nor did I confirm any pain of any kind. I finally got ugly and yelled over him, and told him to never ever call me again, and that I was reporting him. I gave him no information whatever. I hung up.

A robo caller is aggressively targeting our home phone saying they have tried to contact us numerous time via mail and phone calls and that time is running out for eligibility for services… My older parents have received no such mailing from Medicare and these calls have been once a day all this week. This is causing overly undue stress on my already sick mother. The phone companies should be held more responsible for the service they provide to better protect our Senior Americans from these illegal types of activity.

I received a phone call offering me a "free brace for my chronic pain". I knew right away this was a scam, but selected the right options to talk to a real person. His name was Tyler, and he was asking me about where my pain was, and when it came time for the brace, he asked me for my medicare account number that is on my "red white and blue" card that I do not own because I am in my 20’s… I accused the guy of causing the US Government BILLIONS of dollars of fraudulent claims and he just kept justifying it saying he probably makes more money than I do. They’re ridiculous, and NEED to be shut down. 50% of my calls are robocalls anymore. Absolute pieces of trash.

Caller (yesterday, March 13, mid-afternoon Central Time), with a slight foreign accent, self-identified by name, "from Medicare such-and-such a unit") verified my name and asked my birth date, which I gave, and if I had arthritis, and when I said I did have mild arthritis, asked where, emphasizing back or shoulder? I said in my hands, but quite mild, currently. Caller solicited my medicare number and asked if I had additional insurance. Not thinking, I gave the number from my insurance card. I asked where the caller was located, and was told "Fairfax, Virginia". Caller gave his name, but I don’t remember it. Offered a Medicare-covered wrist base and recorded my home address and email address, and said shipping was also covered, and it would be sent. Caller said his supervisor would give me a backup call to verify in one minute, so to hang up. I did, and a woman, also with a slight foreign accent, called and verified my shipping address, and I said the arthritis affecting my hand was quite mild, and I doubted I’d use a wrist brace if sent. So, she said it wouldn’t be. I didn’t suspect a scam until this morning (March 14). The caller’s phone number, retrieved from Caller ID, was from St..Petersberg, Florida -727-369-8560

We’d been receiving many calls from one particular 800 number, which we ignored. Feeling harassed after the 10th call, I answered to demand that we be put on the ‘do not call’ list. But instead of the expected robo-call, "Michael" introduced himself, implying he was calling from Medicare. Sounded like he may have been in another country. I was distracted and talked with him longer than I would normally. Additionally, one of the residents at the house recently received an updated Medicare card so I was trying to ascertain if this was connected. "Michael" said the old Medicare card would not be current as of March 1st and they needed to send the red, white and blue card. I asked several questions about the red, white and blue card. At one point "Michael" said, "are you being smart?" (meaning sarcastic). I told him this sounded fishy as we had not received any written notification of this. He confirmed the name and address and then asked for the medicare number on the card. His scam now evident, I asked for a phone number to call back and "Michael" hung up. I dialed back the number that was on the caller ID and it was for Direct TV. I do not think we have received any more calls since.

Last week I started receiving calls from 1-800-414-2020.

The 1st time I answered I said hello and the person on the other line( Thick Accent) immediately said she was calling about my Medicare part A& B and she asked me for my name. I responded by hanging up. ( I do not have Medicare)

The 2nd time I answered the same 1-800-414-2020 with a hello, and the caller had a similar voice and accent responded with Good morning ma’am I am calling about your recent Doctor visit and please verify your name?

I responded "who are you looking for"?

The female voice said, Please state your full name?

I said, you called me so you tell me my name?

She asked if I was married and that she needed to verify my Medicare Part A&B.

I told her I would not give her my name.

I was hung up on again.

I blocked that number immediately on February 25, 2019

This morning at 9 a.m. 02/28/19 I received another call from the same 1-800-414-2020 that I thought was blocked.

I answered with Hello.

Again, the accented voice greeted with Good morning, this is Tory with Medicare part A&B , who am I speaking too?

I replied, Who are you looking for?

She replied, I am calling about your medicare Ma’am, please state your full name.

I told her I would not give her my name until she told me who she was looking for? She told me I was about to receive a large bill for doctor services and that she needed to verify my coverage and that she needed my name.

Again, I told her I would not give her my name and I asked her to transfer me to her supervisor.

She hung up on me !

I am pretty sure these calls are scammers and I am concerned about my personal information.

A gentleman called the landline 10:30 Friday, 1-25-19 and spoke with my mom — who unfortunately, did give information thinking it was about getting her new Medicare Card. They hung up due to getting to a doctor’s appointment. The gentleman called again in the afternoon of Friday, 1-25-19 and this time spoke with my dad — who immediately told him he was going to hang up and call the ScamPulse.com and report this call.

While I was on the phone with my dad (his mobile) on Tuesday midday, 1-29-19, a Mr. Garcia called their landline and my dad answered. I told my dad to have the gentleman call me so I could understand what he was trying to tell. The gentleman had no qualms talking to me and called immediately after hanging up with my dad. I asked more than once who he was with and the response was "Medicare". I asked how I would know that. He wanted to offer a free knee and back brace that Medicare would cover since that was information on a doctor’s visit — which I knew was not true. I asked again why they wanted to send something when we could get what we needed from our doctor. The phone call was ended by Mr. Garcia.

I then looked up Medicare scams and found there is one circulating around about free back and knee braces. Beware — this is a scam.

When I answered the phone, the caller identified himself as calling from Medicare. He already had my name and address, medical information that sounded as though he were reading from my medical record, and some numbers and letters from my new Medicare card — he simply read what he had to me and asked me to fill in the blanks! In retrospect, that was the part that really "suckered" me. He claimed that the low back, ankle, and shoulder braces that would be sent to me would be paid for by Medicare.

Thereafter, I received several confirmation calls every day; then people who were going to do the shipping of the braces began calling to confirm name and address and best time of day to be at home to sign for a package.

By this time I knew something wasn’t right. The callers who made the original calls and the follow-up calls were no help when I asked questions. I told each person I talked with that I wanted to cancel my order, and they hung up on me. A man in one of the mail rooms told me to call to speak with a supervisor. That didn’t work either. Then, concurrent with continuing to receive as many as 30 plus calls a day, I began to receive packages with braces in them. Right now I have several boxes piled in my spare room, waiting for me to figure how to mail these back and to alert Medicare that these claims are fraudulent. I am writing to you, hoping that what has happened to me can help you to help others before it happens to them. There are really 2 victims — Medicare and me. (I understand that my name will not be used under any circumstances.)

I have received 3 calls over the past week from a Hispanic man claiming to be a Medicare representative. There was noise from a call center in the background. He wanted to verify my Medicare information, although he already had my first and last name, my home address, and land line phone number. He asked if I had received my "plastic" Medicare card (Medicare cards are always paper). He then asked for my middle initial, at which point I knew it was definitely a scam because my Medicare card already has my middle initial on it. I then told him that he was a scammer because I know that Medicare never calls people on the phone. He abruptly said he would send me paperwork to my street address and hung up. I then called the Medicare Hotline and reported the incident. The scammer’s phone number is 1-619-558-2776, which I got from my caller ID. Caller ID said 1-800-MEDICARE. Woman asked for me by name and asked if my address was (then she gave my address). She asked if I had received my new Medicare card. I said yes. She said she was calling to update my coverage, that the call was being recorded, then asked some health questions (if I had diabetes, high blood pressure, height, weight). Then she asked my waist measurement. When I questioned why she was asking, she repeated that my information had to be updated. I told her I was concerned that I was being scammed. She offered to give me her license number. I told her I was feeling uncomfortable and that I was going to hang up, and I did. She immediately called back and said my Medicare was going to be canceled. I hung up again and called Medicare. The agent said no one had called me from there, and that they would never ask for that information over the phone.

A gentleman with a foreign accent called to renew my insurance (never had Medicare). He claimed that his name was “Mark” and that was a big red flag for me. For the past week, I have been receiving calls from someone claiming to be with Medicare. Which I found a red flag already because Medicare does not call me unless I call to request something back. She said she was calling about insurance for my knee problems. I told her that I knew they were not Medicare, and to verify herself she said my full name and address. But the address she gave me was one from eight years ago, so then I was positive she was a scammer. I told her this and she hung up.

I received a call from someone saying they were with Medicare and they asked if I had received my new card yet. I told her yes and she asked me to get my card so she could verify the information. Once I had done that and gave them my number, she then asked if I had any allergies. Starting to become suspicious, I did not give her that information. I told her I didn’t think she was really with Medicare and she said she was and for me to check my caller ID because that number would match the Medicare number on the back of my card, which it did. She then asked me for my height and weight and that’s when I knew it wasn’t Medicare. I was a bit suspicious from the beginning of the call because the lady spoke poor English and had an accent with lots of noise in the background.

Medicare Call Scam

A woman who knew all my personal information claiming to be from Medicare. She was offering me free medical supplies. She asked me 3 times for my Social Security Number. She even told me to get my Medicare card out and verify the number on it. When I refused she said she would get back to me at a later date.

That call came up as New Jersey, now I’m getting about 5 calls per day from calls coming from Illinois. If I answer, it is the exact same sounds coming from the background, like a loud muffled call center.

I am visiting my elderly father. A man called, claiming to be representing Medicare. He said that they would be sending an elastic back brace. I said he didn’t need one. He insisted. I told him to contact us in writing, not by phone, that I needed to verify his identity. He became kind of "huffy," stating that "this is Medicare, the United States government! We are not asking you for any information! These calls are all monitored for quality and…" He also said that they had sent 2 letters and had not heard back, that they have found that "70% of Medicare recipients" do not respond to these letters, so they call people. He said that they would send the brace in 5-7 business days. If it comes, I will send it back. I am letting you know about this because I think that the Medicare fraud people are getting more aggressive. A lot of older adults (and probably younger) would probably fall for this one.

I screamed into the phone, WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT? A woman asked if I was Pamela. I asked who this is. She stated her name was Anna from Medicare. I asked again what she wanted. She told me I had been approved for a free back or knee brace. I said I hadn’t asked for one. I said ,no, I don’t need those. Anna asked if anyone else in the household needed one. I said I didn’t believe this was Medicare and to take my number off their list. She asks "oh, do you want me to stop your Medicare benefits?" I said NO, I don’t and I said I would investigate this call and hung up. These people call from 8:30am to 9:00pm. I googled their number and found many many reports like mine.
