Type of a scam Tech Support

Family Member working on laptop and received a pop up message saying their computer had been compromised and their data was at risk. General concept was that they would lose their data in the next 5 minutes if they did not call the number on the screen to fix the problem.

Family member called and the Mashoutable personnel were able to ask for and get remote access to the computer. They also asked family member to allow them to set up a new gmail account after family member shared with them their email which was an older outdated email service.

In addition, they would randomly say they represented particular anti virus companies which were the ones the family member had on her computer.

They initially asked for $199 to "fix" the problem. Price was declined in which they countered with an offer for $119. Family member said no. They asked if she was as senior and after speaking to supervisor they came back with final offer of $80. At that point, the representative was able to obtain family member’s phone numbers , mailing address, and debit card info. Soon after family member was concerned and family member ended up turning off their computer while on the call and hung up immediately.

The entry on the debit charge was "MASHOUTABLE INCORPOR 8556274688 DE"

Mashoutable has made several attempts to call back and would leave voicemails asking family member to call them back and finish their work. The caller id would show different numbers each time the call came through with a voicemail. The representative did divulge to on original call that they were calling from California.
