Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Email and Text conversation

Scam (Good morning, I’m interested in the furniture but we’re just moving in and currently no in town to come see or pick up, but if you won’t mind I can make the payment through cashier’s check and once the check is cashed I will have movers pick it up ASAP, kindly hold it for me. Thanks)

My response (Could you venmo me? Instead of cashier’s check? I’ll hold it for you?)

Scam (I am a little bit old fashion)

My response ( Okay cashiers check works) (Noted-I have learned my lesson)

Scam (Foward your mailing address with the name you want to the check and I will overnight the check)

Check Tracking number #94055362052010121372157

I deposited the check, asking my bank to verify that the check is legitimate. Key bank stated the check seemed real and was cleared into my account. The scam had asked me to take out money to pay for the movers since the check had extra money to cover that cost, I went to walmart today for a moneygram to send and immediately canceled the transaction because something felt wrong about the situtation. I told the buyer that I need to pay the movers in cash, not moneygram, if not I believe it is a scam and they never responded.

I realized it was a scam after reviewing online forums. Contacted my bank and will be going to the key bank in Coventry and Cleveland Heights Police with the check tomorrow.
