Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received an e-mail with my school account. The e-mail was about pet sitting position in which I thought would be doable. Having agreed to take on the position, the scammer sent a check in which he asked to deposit some amount to him. Right away, I knew this was sketchy. Here is what the e-mail looks like.

Hello Luis,

How are you today? Thank you for your message towards the Pet-Sitting position.. My name is Luc Eric Lafreniere, I’m 53years old and my wife’s name is Akiva, I just got transferred here an auditor..I’m moving with just the puppies Greg and Sherry as they are German Shepherd.

I’m partially disabled so I will need someone to work 2 days per week for 3 hours daily, someone that loves pets, reliable, attentive, honest and punctual. You will be taking care of two 4months old pups for any two days of your choosing excluding Sundays and will have to take them on a walk at least once a week, brush their hairs and make them comfortable, they are both very friendly and obedient, I can handle feeding them but I can’t take them out as much as they’d like me to.

My employee are in the process of securing an apartment for me and I will send you my home address when my apartment is completely secured. Let me know if you prefer me dropping them off at your apartment or you coming over to my apartment to be with them?

My arrival date will be 30th Of September and you can start working that week if it’s convenient for you. I am offering $300 weekly, extra bonuses will be paid if there are any overtimes.. If you are fit for this position and will prove yourself to be a reliable and good person, my employers will like to pay for the first week before my arrival to secure your service in advance and to show commitment on our part .

I did not cash the check. I did my research and realized I have been victimized. I am doing whatever I can to report this so that nobody else will fall into this like I did.
