Type of a scam Employment
A person contacted me via email claiming to be Fiona Maclean from the law firm of Latham & Watkins, LLP. She said she had a position for me working remotely from home. But in order for me to work from home, they needed to send me a check for equipment and software. They sent the check through FedEx with instructions to deposit it in my personal account using my ATM. Because I was already suspicious, I instead contacted the bank on the check and found out the check was fake. I immediately gave the check to my local bank. This person is using the good name and reputation of this law firm in order to commit this fraud. She even included a link to the actual firm’s website in one of her emails! I have a copy of the check, FedEx envelope and tracking number, all emails, and all correspondence through Google Hangouts. Please feel free to contact me should you need any of these documents.
