I was followed by an account on Instagram that advertised to sell bottles of liquor that are only available in certain Caribbean Islands and not the U.S. I’m usually skeptical about these things, but today I attempted to buy some from the person (first mistake). They told me to get the Moneygram app which should have been a red flag. I was assured that he had successfully done business with other people. I was given the name Kevin Perez from Pawtucket, RI. After he successfully collected my money, I noticed he had blocked all forms of communication with me. That’s how I knew immediately what happened. I have confirmation emails from the money sending service, as well as the time the money was retrieved. I contacted Moneygram and they said that they could not give me the location of the pickup unless I got the local police involved. I have a name (they should have had to use identification to get the money) and they can probably tell you where the money was retrieved from. Maybe a camera can identify the scam artist. If I don’t get my money back it is ok, but I’d like to catch the guy who did this and have him stopped. Please contact me if you need anything else.
