Type of a scam Utility
We are a religious organization. Office manager got call saying that power was going to be cut off in 30 minutes for non-payment. Gave phone number to call: 800-908-0227. Called the number, it answered "Kentucky Utilities and Old Dominion." You selected a number depending upon whether you were residential or business. Then asked for last 4 digits of business ID and connected you to a person who advised service was to be cut off imminently for non-payment for two cycles. We are on autopay so asked how this could be. Response was that he would pass along for someone to look into and, if overpaid, would get refund. Advised that I needed to pay via credit card immediately. I asked about doing in person at address on Quality Street in Lexington; was advised that the office to pay at was 200 Main St. in a city 40 miles away; best to pay by card. I said I would call the Quality Street address and I hung up. Called and confirmed that payments had been received and account was not in arrears; gentleman I spoke with said they appear to be scamming churches and other religious organizations today.
