I received a phone call while I was in a business meeting, and the caller left a very threatening voicemail. I returned the call to the number 646-918-5448. A man with a thick Indian accent answered, and I told him I’d received a threatening voicemail and asked him to explain. He recited my name and the last four digits of my social security number, and told me a lawsuit was going to be filed against me in my state tomorrow. He did not specify the state or provide any details about the alleged suit, so I knew right away it was a scam. I also know enough about the legal process to know that’s not how lawsuits work; if you’re being sued, you get papers served. I told the caller I knew he was a scammer, that i would report him and to never call me again, then I hung up. I just wanted to make people aware of this scam so someone less knowledgeable won’t get taken advantage of.
