I received a phone call at 10:49 A.M. (Central-Standard Time) from a person claiming to be an IRS Agent named Stephen Jordan. He provided me with his Identification number, which is IRM 2215 and my case number: CP069T. He said that my taxes were being investigated from the years 2014-2016 and that there were three counts (Count 1, Count 2, Count 3) of the tax code that I had violated in the amount of $4,969.00. He informed me that the call was being recorded and that anything that I say on the phone call would and could be used against me in court. He said that there was a warrant out for my arrest, that all of my accounts were frozen, and that my wages would be garnished if I did not comply. He said that the IRS has made repeated efforts to contact me and that since I have not been able to be contacted, he was calling me directly. I informed him that I was on the IRS website and that the website specifically states that any attempts to communicate with taxpayers would be made via certified US mail. He said that if I did not immediately comply that I would be subject to the full consequences of the law. He asked me if I had completed my tax returns myself or if I have them completed by an accountant. I shared with him that I had an accountant but did not provide any sensitive information. He asked if I wanted to settle my claim and I refused, referring back the IRS website. He wished me luck and informed me that the police would be coming to get me.

A recorded message states they are from the IRS and that I must make immediate contact because my SS # has been linked to criminal activity. I was given a choice to call back (a number was given) or to press 1 to speak to an "investigating agent." I received two of these calls. The first was from the 833 number, which came up as suspicious by my carrier. I just blocked the number. I knew right away it was a scam. The second call came from the 202 number. I can see how people get hooked by these crooks – the recorded message was very convincing. Even though I knew it was a scam, I pressed 1 to speak to an agent – mostly to see what they would say. The person on the other end of the line answered as "Officer" so-and-so, and had an obvious ‘English as a second language’ accent. He immediately attempted to take control of the conversation and convince me that he was really trying to help me because I was in serious trouble. That is when I ended the conversation by telling him I was reporting all of this to the FBI cyber crime unit. Officer so-and-so hung up. Again, pretty elaborate story line, and scare tactics. Don’t fall for it. The IRS does not call you PERIOD. The IRS does not call to tell you your ss# has been linked to criminal activity. They do not call. If you are linked to criminal activity in any way the police will show up at your door and arrest you with a warrant. No one calls ahead. Please don’t fall for these scams.

These scammers will first call using an automated voice saying to not hang up, this is an emergency, there is a warrant for your arrest. Then they will leave a phone number for you are to call back. When you do, a man will most likely answer and will sound legitimate. He will say you’ve called the Internal Revenue Services and will give you a "case number" and "badge number". In my personal experience, he had my maiden last name and threatened me by saying I owed the IRS $2,989 and I explained that I used H&R Block so I will contact them then. At this, he got escalated and said I was on a recorded line and that I was responsible, not anyone else. He "transferred" me to his supervisor who sounded just like him but with a slight souther twang. He proceeded to also threaten me and tell me that I had a warrant for my arrest and that if I disconnected the call 911 would call me and I would be picked up at my workplace. I told him I knew my rights and that this sounded like a scam call. He got upset at that and I hung up. literally 1 minute later I got a call and 1(911) did pop up on my caller ID. I answered and it sounded like the same man asking for me but using my maiden last name, I hung up. At this point, I was shaken up and was searching for myself online. He called a second time and I didn’t answer. I googled the IRS actual phone number called and had them verify my account and the representative also told me that, that was scam call and they have gotten reports about that same situation

He read my address to me (which is public information). He stated a police officer tried to bring the tax paper work to my home on January 10th, but no one was home. He read me an affidavit stating there were 3 counts of criminal allegations against me from the IRS. He said I could be responsible to either pay the IRS 80 thousand dollars or go to federal prison for up to 5 years. He told me I had 2 options. 1: hire an attorney and fight the claim in court or 2: resolve the matter outside of court. He told me if I chose resolution he would forward me to his superior. I hung up at that point. I’m assuming they would have asked me for over the phone payment. They told me I owed the IRS $3,871.92. After I hung up the phone he attempted to call back once and I didn’t answer.

Received call from a male with an Eastern Indian accent stating that he was from the IRS. When I inquired what this call was about he placed me on a brief hold to "check my account." I did not provide any information to this caller. He came back on the line and said that I was being investigated by the IRS for tax evasion and fraud and wanted to know if I had an attorney to represent me for these charges. I did not let this call go any further. I responded by stating that I was aware that this is a scam, and if the IRS needs to speak with me, they can send me a letter or call me directly. He then said I know your name, and stated it. He did not have my current last name (he stated my maiden name). And then he hung up on me.

I kept getting calls from them & finally answered an automated recording saying I must call to settle a tax issue & that a warrant was out for my arrest. I called & an Indian foreign accented guy answered demanding my name. I only said they had called me & what was the details of them calling me. ( Sounded like he was in a call center with lots of operators in the background) He sounded upset & hung up the call. I had, had them call seberal months before & had already had a long drawn out conversation with them wanting $4,358. I played along & came to the point they had me in the car (at my computer in reality) asking me to go to Target or Walmart to purchase multiple debt cards in tje amount of my settlement. I finally in formed him after over an hour that I was not going to pay him anything…when he started cussing me & I said I was happy to keep him on the phone to waste his time so he wouldn’t be scamming someone else. He kept pushing that the police were on the way & got even more upset when I laughed at him. He cussed a bunch more calling me horrible degrading names & hung up.

I have been getting automated messages that leave repetitive messages to my cell STERNLY telling me a case has been filed by the IRS. The message says it is time sensitive and that I or my attorney need to call back this minute and repeat their number two times. Then it goes on to say that if I don’t call, the IRS will file a case. It also says that the second I receive this message, I or my attorney need to call them at 410-670-5642. If neither of us calls, they say there will be legal consequences!!! I called them back once and reached someone who didn’t speak English well. Lastly all these numbers are fakers calling over the past few days they are from east to west coast. Honestly I have not called all of them back but they seem to disconnect them as soon as they your cell phone or shortly after they threaten you and don’t get the response they want which is me sending them money.

I received a call and a voice mail about me owing back taxes. I just got married 3 weeks ago and they had my married name and said I owed back taxes. I asked them what name the back taxes were under and they said her married name. I told her I only had this name for 3 weeks so how could I owe back taxes and she hung up on me. I also received a text message threatening me with international fraud and to call 469-982-5000. The voice mail I received wanted me to call 707-271-0156

I let the call go to voicemail while I was at work. The voicemail reported that federal agents would be after me if I did not call within a couple hours. I called back to see what was going on, IRS was repeated three times before i said can I help you? The guy asked my age, my age do you know my name I replied? Had my husbands info originally with Z’s in the spelling in random places also mine. He was able to give me an employee ID number but not accurate for IRS employees. He reported that I defrauded the government since 2013 and need to pay over 5K or they would seize everything. I did not offer any money … rather quite the opposite with other legal issues at this time. However;

I received call allegedly from the IRS saying they were going to suspend my SS# because it had been used in a criminal case in Texas. The caller had an accent. He read off my complete social security number as well as a case number and arrest warrant number. He would not tell me where he got my SS# and ended the call. The number on my caller ID was 800-222-4569.

That I could lose my house if I did not call the number, 660-246-4792, to resolve and pay what was due the government.

I’ve been getting calls on my cell phone from the IRS. They say I’ve been chosen for a $7000 grant. They gave me an ID number. to call back. She asked me if I was married. When I call it back, it’s a NY number, and they say they are with the Grants and Treasure dept, I spoke to Ashley and she told me to check it out with ScamPulse.com as they are legit. They want me to go to Walmart and buy a $200 refundable card, and call them back. I called them back at 929-390-2338 because I was already at Walmart. Some calls it’s a guy, other times it’s a girl. All of the numbers look like they are coming from Washington DC.

Started with a ROBO call stating that I was under investigation. Most of call was not understandable. I called the number back 254-829-5136 which came up from Texas. The man sounded very garbled and hard to speak English. When I questioned his being from USA he called me a xxxxxx xxxxxx. That let me know he was a scam. I also remember the initial call said if I did not respond I would have a warrant issued by some Judge name I could not understand. Wish I could give more but I was caught off guard. Best thing I did was ask him to confirm who he is!

I have received voicemails from these above numbers telling me that the IRS has found fraudulent reporting on my tax filing, or fraudulent activity connected with my SS #. One of the calls identified herself as Deputy Director Samantha from Social Security Administration saying my SS# has been compromised. One or two stated my SS # was going to be suspended because of suspected fraud. All of them were electronic digital voicemails rather than real people. I obviously did not return these “urgent” calls, believing them to be scams phishing for my SS #. Two calls were from CT (Stamford & Redding) & one was from Manchester, NH.

We’ve received 4 robo calls from 2 different numbers indicating we need to contact them about violations with IRS.

A Mr. Gregg called 2 times and an unnamed female’s voice left the message to call them at a different number. Since this has been on the news I knew not to call. I checked the phone numbers on Google and the blogs mentioned Mr Gregg as well. We are on the no call list so I believe we need to report the scam on the Indiana Attorney General’s site too. I know your note indicated you don’t respond but if I need to report more to the BBB,

I will.
