Type of a scam Debt Collections
This number 917-480-5151 called me at my job on 12/19/17. Claimed I owed over $800 for some kind of loan debt from 2014, which I KNOW is false (I have not had any loans since 2012, and all have been 100% repaid.) Guy named Gary Parker posing as law enforcement from the "investigation department" but would not identify company. Thick Indian accent, could barely understand him. Demanded that I pay him right now by phone. I refused and he said he would call my employer "over and over." I told him that was illegal and he did it anyway – proceeded to call my office on all 8 of our lines repeatedly (robocalls – hangups, silence, ringing in background, etc.) literally nonstop, probably 500+ calls, over the course of an hour. Tied up our entire switchboard and staff for well over an hour dealing with these calls. This was after myself and multiple other employees repeatedly advised him to stop as this was a business. Assuming his scam is to keep calling until you pay out of desperation (embarassment, frustration) just to get them to stop calling. Obvious robocalls, posing as law enforcement, attempting to extort money through threatening tactics for fake debts. If this person or number calls you, DO NOT PAY.
