Steve Birch emailed me on Sunday, 9/22/19 about a TV commercial production assistant position for an upcoming commercial shoot on Oct. 10-13. I let him know that unfortunately I’m not available on Oct. 12th but would like to come onboard for the other shoot dates. A day passed and I didn’t hear back so I followed up. He replied and attached a contract without even acknowledging my limited availability (which should’ve changed my pay to $900 but the contract still said $1,200. I was hesitant after hearing the unusually high PA rate and then learned that I’d receive a portion of the pay upfront. Who does that? I still signed the agreement and just received another email from a Steve today 9/26/19:

“Hello Mike,

I instantly Googled his name and a blog post came up so that confirmed that this was a scam. I’d like to prevent this guy from scamming anyone. Looks like he’s been scamming people for years and he needs to be stopped.

I thought it sounded fishy and looked up the website. It’s the vaguest site I’ve ever come across. The bull[censored] I wrote in high school is better than it. I couldn’t find a "Steve Birch" in film. I responded to the email saying I was available, just to see what they would say. I attached the next email they sent me.
