Type of a scam Phishing
I received a call at 3:04 pm on January 16, 2020, from the number (877+244-9686) listed above–the source of which is unknown to me. A man left a voice message, which I thought for sure was a scammer. "For a federal criminal offense, this is the final attempt to reach you to resolve this issue immediately and to speak to a federal agent. Call back at number 877-224-9686, I repeat 877-224-9686. Thank you."
Curious, I called back to the number 877-224-9686. A male voice answered with, "Social security office." I said, "I’m sorry, can you repeat that?" The man again said, "Social security office." I told the person that I had just received a call from this number. He then asked for my name and telephone number. When I said, "Before I give that information, how can you assure me that this is the Social security office?" the man responded with, "Damn bitch, how many times do I have to tell you the Social security office?" and hung up.
Clearly, both of these numbers are connected to a phishing scam, presumably from how the phone was answered…my social security number.
