Type of a scam Online Purchase

Recently my girlfriend and I were looking into buying a puppy. We found Sophie on a website named "homeofdachshaundpuppies". Of course it was love at first sight. So naturally we asked emailed the contact email and asked to if she was available. Fortunately she supposedly was. Without thinking we went ahead paid the fee for the puppy as we knew that if we didn’t she might not be available if we didn’t. My girlfriend and I set up a time for delivery that would be convenient for both parties. The time would be approximately 4 weeks after purchase date. The day before we were supposed to receive the beautiful puppy, we received a message saying that the people wanted to wait a few days to ship her on a weekday. A decision was made to let them send her on the following monday and we would just plan around her arrival time so we would be able to receive her.

The day that Sophie was supposed to arrive my girlfriend and I both received calls about the transportation of the puppy. Both seemed authentic as they were wanting to confirm the shipping details. But shortly after confirming, my girlfriend received an email saying that due to the weather, Sophie would need to be shipped in a special crate. They wanted us to pick between a few options of crates. In this email they wanted us to buy some sort of crate that cost upwards of $3000. But stated we could "rent" one for $1700 and they would "pay back 95%" after the crate is returned. Knowing about how puppies are shipped due to my family having backgrounds in the breeding of puppies I informed my girlfriend that this was not needed. She then emailed them and stated that no such crate will be needed as the weather was clear in both our state as well as path the plane would take. After sending the email we did not hear back from the shipping company. Which can be found at petsairrelocationservice.com. Curiously, I texted the person asking if there was anyway to track Sophie to know if there was anyway to give live feedback on her whereabouts.I never got a responds. We paid through Zelle, an app that allows you to transfer money to people. We contacted my girlfriends bank in regards to this scam and they denied our request to investigate the situation.
