Got email today stating my geek squad annual maintenance is ending today 12/15/20 and they will be charging me 299.00 for the annual fee! I have no geek squad account. Tried calling the number; of course no answer! Responded back to email that I will be reporting them and that they better not charge me of this bogus scam! Of course, in the email it says responding to them will not stop the charge!

Please get these criminals!

CAN WE STOP THIS FRAUD

Heidi – Nov 23, 2020

On November 19, 2020, at about 10am EST – I called the Geek Squad technical support to ask that they not renew my membership, since I am being treated for Prostrate Cancer and could not afford it. Everything went well for a while, then the technical support person said I they would give me back the money that they had billed my checking account for, and also a rebated from last year since I do not use the computer for business. The amount was for $350.00 and he had control of my computer. The amount was ready to go into my checking account, and for some reason, when I typed in the amount it came out to $3, 500.00 instead and the technical guy started to panic and said he would lose his job. I told him to just change the amount, but he replied that he could not do that. He recommended I get four American Express gift cards each for $500.00 that I did after much running around. He stayed on my speaker cell phone for nearly 3 hours, I got the cards then read the numbers off to him, and never heard from him again. I am out $2, 000.00 that I can’t afford. And the $3, 500 that was put into my account, was gone at end of day. This is a crime, I am a 75 year old Vietnam Veteran suffering from prostrate cancer, and expected to be treated better than this. The tech person who had the West Michigan phone number of 1-616-371-4550 and 1-616-647-3257 that he called from. Please help, I have also filed this complaint to the Michigan Attorney Generals Office.
my name is Arthur B. Fox, pittsburgh, PA.

Allen – Nov 06, 2020

Received email saying my free subscription for PC Computer World had expired and I am to be billed $149.99. I never had a subscription. I spoke with one person, “Mike” I believe from India – phone is out of Deerfield, Wisconsin. I had to interrupt my first call with them due to business, and they pursued me quite diligently to be able to put the moneys back into my account. This was far too complex – and strange — to be a normal cancellation process. Companies never pursue someone so steadfastly to return money to an account. I called them back. When the phone was answered, there was no company name – just “hello”. I told them I would report them to the Better Business Bureau. Beware!

Clayton – Oct 29, 2020

Received this email today. did not reply, will not reply. never gave billing info and never had business with this company. wording sounds foreign … scam no doubt and will monitor all my accounts for any suspicious billing. … dead give away “Jeffer-son” and that name baaahaaaa from “Shameeka Meek” right… Americans are getting smarter and these scams are blatantly ridiculous. beware all …!

Phone # he used was 213-419-2567. He said he could refund more than we were charged since we were such good customer. Wanted me to verify that refund went threw, but our bank system said was down for maintenance so he will call back tomorrow to continue. Something didn’t sound right after call so checked my cards and NO charge on any of them!! Oh the billing Dept # we got was1 888-898-8723.

I received a phone call saying that Geek Squad at Best Buy was going to auto renew my virus protection on my computer for a $400 fee. They then asked me to go to Zoho Assist on my browser to start the virus software renewal process. I pushed them for the verification of Geek Squad and asked to speak to a manager. I was transferred to someone but nobody could actually tell me the software that was going to be updated. I argued with the man for about 5 more minutes and then they hung up.

I never got billed for this, the estate was not billed and when they said connect my computer to there network I told them they were scammers and hung up.

I recieved a call from 312-300-2824. They left a vm stating they had charged my account and left the same number they called with to return the call and get a refund. I called back.I told them I had no idea who they were. They said they were with Geek Squad. So, I stupidly gave them access to my computer remotely and my bank account. Luckily, I checked my mobile app and saw nothing of what he was telling me. He became irate. I said a few choice words and hung up. There was so much more to it, but that’s the main story. I had to change my bank access ID and password, and perform a factory reset on my PC. They almost got me to give them $3500.00 out of my account. I don’t know what I was thinking!!

When I told him I needed his number he gave me a bogus number and kept pressing and demanding me to enter my checking account information. I told him I need to verify and he got meaner and kept demanding. That’s when o got suspicious, It got to the point I told him I’m going to call the Police. then he yelled profanity at me. I received an e-mail from Geek Squads Billing that said it was a reminder for service auto renewal. It gave me a order ID# 675fd91RD, a product name of Network Security. They said it was a new Network Security update and it was ready for installation and as per their contact with me their plan will auto renew and it will auto debit $399. This is towards the extension of service period for 36 months support. Then they said it I have any queries regarding this subscription to call their Network Support Team and gave me a number starting with area code 806.

I called Geek Squad right away using the phone number on Best Buy web site which is not the number listed in the e-mail. They did not show anything about an update on my account and there was not any outstanding charges and nothing for $399.

I had not ordered any protection from The Geek Squad….especially for no $299.99. I called the underlined # and the fellow with a Philippine accent told me to click on that underlined #…I asked "Why" he said so he could handle the account….or something to that effect. I asked if in doing so he could have access to my computer—his answer was "Yes". I used some language I will not put in print and told him in no uncertain terms — "NO"

I think this was a way to get into my computer — they may have even got into my checking, but the Bank isn’t answering the phone at 3:51pm.. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s after hours, or the fact that they may be busy.

I called back and and a man very forcefully told me they were going to take $400.00 from my bank account. I yelled in response if they took any money from my account, they would be sued and I would take them to court. I demanded to know who they were now and what they thought they were going to do it for. He replied they are The Geek Squad and I had a yearly contract due bill and my computer was going to crash. I told him I did not have an account or bill with them and never had. I again forcefully and loudly told him I would sue him and did he understand? He said, "Yes," but he continued to press that he was able to take the money from my bank account and crash my computer. I continued to yell into the phone; I would sue them and take them to court about three more times and he hung up on me. A report has been filed with the local police and my bank has been notified.

They called at 7am leaving a message that there is going to be an automatic withdrawl from my account of $99.00 unless if I call back and cancel my subscription. I returned the call they claimed they were with Geek Squad and said I needed to be on my computer in order to cancel the account. I was on the computer for 15 minutes following his instructions with some hesitation in my mind. Then all of a sudden there was a different guy on the phone, I asked where did the guy that I was just talking to go? He replied he had another phone call so he was going to finish helping me. That seemed like a huge red flag. I hung up, all of a sudden my phone started ringing off the hook, they called me 16 times from 3 different numbers and I didn’t answer any of them. They sent me a message on my computer to call back and that is when I closed out everything that they had me doing on my computer. I then called ScamPulse.com to check the phone #’s and they couldn’t locate any of them. I then called our local Geek Squad store and talked to an associate about what was going on and they tried to look up an account for me and said that I wasn’t even in their system. He said that they would never call in person it would be correspondence either through email or mail. Told me to watch if I was charged or anything in my bank account.

Received email at 10:48 am on 8/27/2019. Called phone # on email (attached). Auto voice said Geek Tech Support I wanted was not available and to leave a message. I left message saying I did not order or want what they were selling, and I wanted to know what account they had charged it to. I also told them if I did not hear from them by 12 noon I would report them to BBB. I tried emailing them at the email address on their email (even though it said "no-reply"). At 11:01am I received call from number listed on email, but when I answered there was only a dial tone. I called back at 11:04 am. Man said they would cancel the order but I would have to be transferred to their billing department and they would take access to my computer to do that. I said, "No way you’re getting access to my computer!" The man then said he would cancel the order. I then asked for his name and a confirmation number. The next thing I heard was a busy signal or a dial tone. I also received an mail from [email protected] saying they were unable to deliver email. I have checked my credit cards and banks. It seems as though nothing has been charged to me as yet.

A phone call from some foreign man saying they was from geek squad.

Said my computer was sending signals to their computer and tried to get me to sit behind my son’s computer (even though I said that it wasn’t in my name),. asking for me to type what they say and that it wouldn’t take long.

I said we are busy and he kept insisting that it was for real and the computer needed something.

I finally talked him into calling back on Tuesday just to hang up the phone.

Got a call from an ‘Unavailable’ number. When I clicked 1 to learn about a supposed refund due to me, I got connected to a noisy boiler room, by the sound of it. Speaker had a fairly strong accent, but claimed to be representing the Geek Squad about some service they did on my computer last August. He directed me to download a program (app, in his parlance) named AnyDesk.exe. When I pressured him to give me more validation or a number I could call back, he tried to make me feel bad that I wouldn’t take the refund and that they (whoever they are) would be delighted to keep the money. Claimed that ScamPulse.com was knowledgeable about them as a means to try to get me to proceed, but, when I continued to pressure him, he finally told me he was going to hang up and keep my $300 (which I never spent, as I seldom have used Best Buy or the Geek Squad). I have no record in my accounting program of an amount spent at either Geek Squad or Best Buy in the time frame he used.

A message from a robot cut off on my answering machine, but left the same number to call as was on my caller ID. 888-254-2999.

I was screening and called the number back immediately. The man who answered identified himself as being with Geek Squad. I asked what the message was since it cut off. He said he needed to look up the information and only got my first name. He said 2 years ago when I purchased a computer I signed up for Geek Squad for $299. This call is to refund that amount since the services offered were inconvenient. Then he told me to go to this computer and logon. I cut him off and said I’m not doing that. He said that was the only way. I told him I will call Geek Squad myself and hung up.

I received an e-mail, supposedly from Geek Squad, stating that my computer support contract with them had expired and that they would deduct $753 from my account. They also stated that if my account is not active or has changed, they have the last 4 digits of my social security number and would use that to procure the funds from my current account. I have never had a computer support contract with this company and never will. I called the phone number provided and spoke with an unidentified woman who said I had an account and to pay the money. She did not ask me for any identifying information, so how would she know if I had a contract or not? I reported this to the ScamPulse.com and was advised that the e-mail is a scan and to report it to ScamPulse.com Scam Tracker.

I received a call from 802-321-0629,someone claiming to work for Geek Squad, stating the company is shutting down US operations and moving to the United Kingdom. In exchange for the inconvenience, they are refunding the initial fee, but you had to let them have access to your computer and asked you to keep looking for a refund on your personal bank account or credit card. I was fooled at first, because they knew the amount I paid for the coverage, but decided not to open my bank account on the computer, but they kept trying to have me open new windows on my computer. They ask you to open ApelX, TeamShare and a different program that allows them access to your computer. When they cannot gather personal information, they start asking you to find new ways to connect. Don’t do it!

They called and left a message for my 85 year old father that is in the hospital stating they were withdrawing $99.99 from his bank account for Windows. When I called them to confront them they asked for "MY" social security number so they could look up his account. When I refused they said to open his e-mail and click on a link that they just sent to cancel. My parents almost fell for this until I told them not to do anything and let me deal with them. Then when I hung up they called my phone 10 minutes later saying they had a $249 refund to send me and to click on a link that they want to e-mail me.

I got a call from this number 863-440-7836, the guy barely spoke English, right away I knew this was a scam but I kept asking questions to get down as much information as possible. He told me he works for GEEK SQUAD and I had a warranty in 2015 for my computer that I am getting a refund for WITH THE HELP OF THE ScamPulse.com for $399 since the warranty is no longer working. In order to do this he was going to help me fill out a form online with the ScamPulse.com (because apparently I need help finding their website). I said do you even know my name? How do you know I am getting a refund. He told me my name and phone number. (this was accurate information) He told me to enter the following into my web browser: "alpha7.tk" I told him I would write this down first, he said no put this in your browser directly. I said this is not a real website, and this is a scam. He hung up immediately.

Caller left number to call stating that if not contacted that card on file will be debited for $1000.00. I called number and was told it had to do with a service on my computer. In order for them to cancel, they would need to take over my computer to send cancellation form. I did so after asking why I couldn’t get form by mail. The money was to be put in my bank account via Western Union. I had to sign into my account to see if it showed up. Instead of putting the correct amount of refund in the account, they put in $1300.00 more. The caller wanted me to go to Walmart and purchase $1100.00 worth of I-Tunes gift cards and give him the information from them. I could keep $200.00 for my trouble.Of course I knew it was a scam then. I put hold on my bank account so they could not pull any funds out. The deposit never showed up. He called multiple times from 209-390-8978 to seem if I had purchased the cards. The last time he called, I told him I was at police station reporting him.

I called geek squad tech supt. and noticed the way it started to ring and then changed to a different ring. I left my information for a call back. I received a call back and was told they were the geek squad. They asked if they could access my computer for remote repairs and I said yes. I gave them my credit card number for payment. Later informed my credit card of the purchase and they requested a refund from the "geek squad" back to my account. Time went bye and a year and a half to two years went by. I received a call from "the geek squad" and they asked if they could pull information from last repair so that they could send me a refund. I agreed and before I knew what was happening they put a bunch of porn on my computer and made it impossible for me to use the browser I prefer. (Internet Explorer). I turned off the computer and received a call asking if I had received my refund. They get on my computer every day and when I get on my computer, they are moving things about on my computer. I shut it off and then get a phone call asking if I received a refund. This is frightening what can I do?

I was getting messages on my computer that my comcast settings were out of date. I called the number thinking I was calling computer support that came with my Dell purchase. The tech entered my computer and claimed to have updated my settings. Then came the sales pitch. I told the tech that I could not afford the $400 for 5 years nor the $125 for one year. He called back a couple of weeks later with the same pitch; again I told him that I could not afford the service – still thinking he was a rep from my complimentary computer tech service. He then became very annoyed with me, telling me my regular tech support, McAfee would only protect my computer from viruses but not from scammers. Again I told him I could not afford the additional coverage. He then accused me of "not keeping my promise to him" and that I would be responsible for getting him in trouble with his boss. Today I received a call from "the boss" (discovering from the caller ID that he was actually from The Geek Squad). The man said I owe them money because their tech helped me. I told him I in no way contracted for service from The Geek Squad. I told him if he called me again that I would call the police and contact BBB. He tried calling me again but I did not answer the phone. I consider this a scam and harrassment. Also I am concerned these people now have access to my computer. Shall I also contact law enforcement?

I received multiple phone calls with a man (foreign accent) claiming to be from the Geek Squad. He asked if I was the main user of the household computer and that they received information informing them of a virus with our Microsoft Windows. I have had this happen in the past where the caller then asks for you to log into your computer and then the caller will remotely log-in to "show you the virus with the security". Once they have remotely log-in, they have access to your system. If not, they can send you an email that you open and it downloads a phishing virus that gives them access to your computer. The man got very defiant when I told him that it is unheard of that the Geek Squad calls the consumer. Consumers call when they have an issue and I did NOT call.

This is a Billing or collection issue as well as service issue. Believe we have been scammed. Perhaps by a company avoiding to pay taxes. My wife had a warning on her computer. She phoned what she believed to be a tech support group. This has been within the recent days so not sure if they helped or installed additional issues. They held our computer network hostage until payment received. Yes, she allowed them access and yes she changed all passwords post issue. They received payment via ? Google Play? prepaid cards. The tech we spoke with was based in California according to him. The payment receipt dept. supposedly located in Buffalo NY according to the individual we spoke to. I asked for address and zip code. Address given was Buffalo NY, zip code was in Florida! The suspicion of fraud and scam was when I requested to see their policies and was denied for proprietary reasons. Managers name Mr. Josh Mathews ph: 929-383-0093 Tech support : Mr Smith ph: 408-337-6011 Please review and confirm or correct my suspicions. So here is another bit of info about this organization. We are told the name of the company, tech support was ‘Geek Squad? . I asked if affiliated with Best Buy, the manager never heard of it!

Product_Or_Service: Microsoft tech support No settlement requested – for I would appreciate that ScamPulse.com contact this company and verify if this is fraudulent and if we were scammed. I do believe that this company avoids taxes by receiving payment via ? Google Play? prepayment cards. }

I was called on my cellphone from the # 2099757916. A man with a thick Eastern Indian accent told me that he worked for Geek Squad and that their company was no longer in business and that they wanted to refund my money. I explained that I hadn’t purchased anything and he became angry asking me, "Don’t you remember? I need you on your computer now to give me access!" I explained that I did not know what he was talking about and he hung up on me. I immediately called back and got the same person. He this time said with hesitation that his name was "John". I asked for his supervisor and he told me that he was the supervisor. I persisted and he put a man named Kevin on the phone. I told Kevin how John was rude and to explain to me what was going on. Kevin said they wanted to refund money to me and asked, "Don’t you remember our service?" I instantly said that is the problem I don’ t remember doing business with you will you please explain. A year ago, my husband received a pop-up ad stating that his computer was being hacked, and that he needed to call the above number. He did, and they talked him into paying them $199 for "lifetime" security services. Now, almost a year later, they have called him at least 50 times in the past few days insisting that someone has hacked into our computers. They wanted another $179 today for us to buy "web route internet security"…an anti-virus?? These people claimed to be a subsidiary of Best Buy. There IS a Geek Squad associated with Best Buy but these people are not a part of that…I went to Best Buy today and we are definitely not signed up for the real Geek Squad program.

Since Best Buy affirmed my thought that THIS "Geek Squad" is bogus, I called the above number back and told them to never call us again. Hopefully they won’t.

Type of a scam Tech Support

I thought I was reaching out to Geek Squad technical Support who works thru Best Buy when I purchased a new laptop in Jan. 2016. I acquired their phone number on the internet. It turns out that they were not Geek Squad but pretending to be Geek Squad with a telephone number 800 832 5456. Two weeks after purchasing my laptop I phoned them for technical support. They told me my computer was going to crash if I didn’t pay them $499 for lifetime Malware Security Software. I paid them and then they completely changed my computer. It seems just about every week I had a laptop issue, they would get on my computer remotely and "fix the problem". The last phone call to them on 4/29/16 was a security pop up issue, and they took remote access. Three hours later then completely destroyed my computer so I was not able to use it. I then walked into Best Buy to tell them Geek Squad had been working on my computer and now it doesn’t work. They looked at the phone and didn’t recognize the number. I then realized I had been scammed.

Harry did a quick survey with me and then said that I qualify for a REFUND of my $299 service plan, due to a screw- on their sales rep’s fault and a US government court order. He said the money needed to be wired into my bank account and they could not send a check to my house; they already had my address. He showed me how no one but the foreign bank that would be wiring the money to me could read my account number. 1 thought on “Geek Squad”

  1. I don’t have much to add to what has been previously entered below, except to say that this scam is still being played and you should be aware. Everything in the earlier posts is accurate, including the fact this is a very professional – and professional appearing – operation, using corporate names like Chase and Lowe’s. If you receive an email regarding the expiration of your Geek Squad Total Tech subscription, be on high alert. I doubt that Best Buy, Chase, or Lowe’s can do much about this, so the only recourse you’ll have is to report the fraud to your state’s Attorney General office. And I doubt that the state will be able to do much about it either.
