Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
I was selling an item that was listed on a couple of online advertisement sites. Scammer contacted me stating that he wanted to purchase the item and then stated that movers would pick it up. We agreed that he would send me a cashier’s check with the movers fee on it and that I would pay the movers directly in cash when they arrived. I received the cashier’s check for the stated amount and then buyer tried to tell me that I agreed to pay movers ahead of time and with a personal check, I never agreed to that at all. I ended up back at my bank and had the check reversed and now the fraud department has it and is investigating because the cashier’s check even fooled them and they thought it was an authentic check. The scammer became very angry and has sent me several text with foul language and personal threats. I have filed a police report but there is not much that can be done with a fake name, address and phone number.
