Type of a scam Tech Support

My 80 yr. old father called tech support for a Seagate External Hardrive purchased at Target . He was put through to FirstSpring for assistance. They told him they needed to access his computer, proceeded to tell him that he had a terrible virus on his system that was not allowing his drivers to function. After 2.5 hours on the phone, and a $900.00 charge, they supposedly "fixed" his virus but the hard drive was still not functioning and they could not help with that. They took advantage of an elderly man on a fixed income. Apparently, based on other comments I’ve seen, this has happened before – described almost exactly.
