Type of a scam Government Grant

This scammer used the name George Brown. He had a heavy Indian accent, and you could hear lots of chatter in the background. He said that I was awarded a $9,200 Federal Grant. He didn’t ask for much personal information except for a name, if I was employed, what my Zip code is, and state. Then he gave me a Grant Activation Code and a second number to call, which was apparently to his Senior Accountant, who would take me through the rest of the steps to get my grant money. This second phone # is 202-503-4835.

I spoke to Michael Williams, who also had an Indian accent, and claimed to be the Senior Accountant. Once I gave the activation code he said that in order to get my money I had to go to Walgreens and buy a $200 Steam gift card in order to cover the grant activation fee. He said this fee was refundable! Wow, so in total I would get $9,400, which would be sent to that Walgreens for me to pick up. What a great deal!

My new buddy Michael wanted me to stay on the phone with him while I went to Walgreens to ensure that I would get the correct card in the correct amount. When I told him I didn’t have a cell phone he said he would call me back on my "landline".

Needless to say I didn’t go to Walgreens to buy a gift card. He called me back multiple times, but I just don’t answer.
