Automated message claimed to be Duke Energy calling to schedule a time for utility cut off or immediate payment. Pressed 2 for immediate payment. Caller requested location of service and name. The caller hung up when I hesitated to answer.

I received a call from a man who said my Duke Energy account was in the negative and I needed to bring my account current within the next 30 minutes or my power would be shut off. I hung up immediately, knowing this is a scam because I just paid my bill.

I received a call yesterday from 1-800-777-9898 and the voicemail that was left was from a woman with a heavy accent and stated that my Duke Energy account was behind and I needed to return the call in order to not disrupt service. I returned the call this morning to 1-800-340-5801 and hit option 2 for disconnect/reconnect. A man with a heavy accent answered the phone. He stated I was behind 2 months on my payments and that they were sending someone to disconnect my power within 30 minutes if I did not go to the nearest CVS and buy $479 worth of moneygram cards. I know my account is not behind. Scammer also did not realize that while he was calling our business office, our account is not set in our business’ name.

Scammers called claiming that my Electricity was going to be disconnected in 30 minutes. I said that was incorrect information because i had just received my statement saying bill to pay in July, i hung up the phone and called Duke Energy they said it’s a scam, that they never call.

They had my name and my address.

Rec’d call from person who identified their selves as Duke Energy and they were calling to disconnect our power today if we did not pay.

Received phone call wanting me to verify my account # and address. This company states they are calling me for non-payment of bill. My power is to be cut off at noon. Called Duke Power and my bill is current.

Received a phone call from "Duke Power" and a number to call back before 12:30pm or my power was scheduled to be turned off. I called the number given (877-661-1928 ext. 2) and a man came on telling me that my power was to be turned off unless I updated my payment. I told them my wife and I pay auto-pay on all utilities and besides, we were with Laurens Electric. He said it didn’t matter and would put order in for the address mentioned….I said I didn’t mention an address and what did he have as my address. He said it was the one we spoke about and again I said we did mention an address! He hung up. Called back and got Hispanic man on phone and instead of hanging up he had a static speaker placed on his end to where I could not hear him.

I have reported this with the SC/NC AG.
