I have already been through this scam once and lost $300.00 in the exact way. They called me today from 8776790222 introducing themselves with an extremely strong accent as working for Direct TV. They tell you they are going to cut your bill in half for the next two years and all you need to do is send them money "through a bank" to get this offer.

I knew immediately it was some kind of scam due to all the loud voices in the background. Direct TV NEVER has that type of rudness due to making it hard to hear. I did NOT fall for that scam again but I hate it that I know others will,

Thank you for your help.

The people call identifying them selves as employees of Direct TV. They say you have been selected to participate in a promotional deal to cut you bill by 50% for 3 years if you purchase the product for a 10 month advance payment (in our case it was $430.00). You had to purchase Ebay gift cards from a merchant (several were listed, we bought them from Walgreens). They ask for the Direct TV account number(which I did not know) but that did not slow them down. You give them the redemption codes. They also offer a $100.00 Visa gift card in the deal. A day later they sent a Text saying that Walgreens(or who ever you bought the cards from) and Ebay are having issues and could not process the cards. They said that they would send me the $430.00 refund if I went to another vendor and purchase it again. The numbers all have Direct TV logo and answering information. The two guys I talked to were Jake and Walter (Very thick accents). The numbers are as follows:

Called to offer me 50% off and a free upgrade, the first thing they asked for was my passcode, I refused to give it as they called me. I searched the number and google gives it as a pest control service. I called the number and got straight through to a human no ATT sounds or press numbers for options and again the person asked for my account passcode.

I called Direct TV and they are currently not offering existing customers any promotions especially 50% off

I had received a call that I did not answer. I checked my voice mail and it was a promotional offer from AT&T and Direct TV. I called the number back and it actually went through an AT&T menu. I had a conversation with an agent, Nathan, who informed me of the promotion. He knew my account details. Since the call went through (or seemed to go through) an actual AT&T menu, it seemed legitimate. After accepting the promotion, I was informed they were teaming with Ebay to be able to promote the special and must be made with an Ebay prepaid card. Yes, that should have been a red flag. Do not fall for it!!! They get your pin code, call AT&T and upgrade your service while you are on hold paying. It appears legitimate because the movie channels show up.

Received several calls claiming to be direct TV with offer for half off monthly bills. In return they asked me to pay 3months of bill in advance by paying them in eBay cards. They knew my name but asked for my personal code, monthly bill amount, and other personal information. When you call them back it sounds very similar to actually calling direct tv with option menu and everything. I had a feeling it was a scam and called real direct tv to verify. After that, I called to hear what they were trying to pull. The first guy cussed me out so I continued to lead them on. Second guy played along while I read incorrect numbers until he demanded I send the picture of the cards to [email protected]

He called me back to back constantly to see if I sent it yet. I blocked the number, but have received text message as well from 549-00.

They say they are calling about a service request that was made to them by me about an account I have and to upgrade the account. They are wanting credit card, address, email, name, etc provided to them for verification. FIRST… I do not have an account with Direct TV. SECOND… I am not going to give my personal information to someone who threatens to do all types of things with my credit and account if I don’t tell them the information they want.

I am also reporting this to my local police department and filing an official report with FTC, along with blocking the phone number.

On 1/10/2019 I received an email to contact 1-888–358-3751 to lower my Direct TV bill by 50% using promo code eBay. I contact them and followed the direct t.v. Prompts. They explained they could lower my bill to 40.00 per month from 80.00 and in addition give me all the movie channels at no extra charge for 2 years. They said Direct TV has a contract with eBay and all I have to do is pay 240.00 up front and I would not get billed by direct T.V for 6 months, after the 6/months I would pay 40.00 per month. I am to get 2 eBay cards.. 1 for 200.00, the other for 40.00. I said..nope this doesn’t sound right. They said, for skeptics like you…turn your t.v.on. I did. They said go to your HBO, Cinemax, showtime etc… I did.. Suddently all my movie channels were there and activated. That is what made me a believer. This turned out to be a scam…after I sent them the 240.00 with the eBay cards. I contacted Direct TV they denied the promotion…they gave me the fraud line and I reported it to make sure they were not billing me for those channels. I am upset that Direct TV can be hacked so easily!

I have been receiving harassing and threatening phone calls from someone claiming to be a third party with DIRECTV for the last 13 months. They initially start out speaking to me very nicely and when I decline the offer I get cussed out, told that he’s going to come rape me, etc. Direct TV isn’t doing anything and will not hold themselves accountable for what’s taken place. Clearly there’s been a security breach and it happened sometime last year. Yesterday when they called he stated that he had all of my account information. Wanting to see how true this was I played stupid and had him verify my information and did not give him anything. He responded back and verified my phone #, address as well as my DIRECT TV ACCOUNT NUMBER. He also gave me his “direct number” (210-988-0227) yet this time they called from 1-800-490-4388 (that number appears to be linked up to a company called Bandwidth.com based out of San Antonio). One guy went by the name Robert and the other guy went by the names Martin and Mark. He stated that I was talking to a white person on the phone. He also admitted they’re a third party and calling to offer me a discount because of all of the issues with Direct TV cutting out, poor internet quality, etc. I told him I’m not sure if I’m going to stay or not and told him I will call him back after I think about it and decide to stay. Yesterday we received a phone call from a representative of Direct TV. The purpose of the call was to advise us that Direct TV was

upgrading all of their TV receivers. We hung up then called the caller ID# and yes, we got a Direct TV announcement. So immediately

we received another call this time the caller identified himself as a supervisor and giving us the same spiel. They wanted info from our

TV such as serial #, receiver#, etc. After all that was recorded, they said it would cost $99. but that would be charged after the activation.

They gave us an activation # to call (1-800-388-6597). When we called that another Direct TV announcement played. So we assumed

that it was Direct TV. Finally, they read off all our personal information i.e. address, email address and said that our credit card that they

had on file was had expired and in order to process this they asked, and yes, got our new number, date, and 3 letter code. After hanging

up they called again to give us a technical support # (1-888-526-3721). Now, 24 hrs. later we just received a call from AT&T saying that

there had been a strange call to them and they were warning us that it sounded suspicious. They advised us to cancel our credit card.

We called VISA to do so. Yet, strangely, there had been no unusual activity on our account. Our question and concern is why this elaborate

"scam" yet no use of our VISA? Can you tell us what other type of information were they after? Can they access anything else?

The phone # that they used originally is 1-888-777-2454. When you call this number you get the same Direct TV message. But I called

the number of Direct TV on our bill and gave them that number and they have no listing. Can you help us figure out what they were after?

Caller was offering a promotion whereby Direct TV and Ebay had entered into an agreement and was offering the promotion to current Direct TV customers. Promotion would lower customer’s monthly charges. However, 5 months must be paid for in advance to receive the discount. Because Ebay had partnered with Direct TV, the 5 month advance payment had to be paid with Ebay Gift Card(s). Scammer even provided a promotion code and a payment reference number. We would get all the channels that Direct TV had to offer. We just had to pay the first 4 months up front, but had to be with an Amazon gift card, as they have partnered with Amazon. Luckily for us the gift card we purchased was through our amazon prime pay pal account, so they never had access to our bank information.

On 9 May 2017 I received a call from what they claimed to be was DIRECT TV. They called to tell me that they were doing a special right now – $99 a month for 2 years and that includes all premium channels. The catch was that I would have to pay for 3 months up front – and then I would get 1 month free. The other catch – I needed to pay with an Amazon Gift card since this promotion was sponsored by Amazon – and they were trying to promote their gift cards. I said I would think about and maybe call them back. Of course they said the offer would end the next day. So I called them back at the number provided (888-601-2036). It sounded legit. Heard the Direct TV intro at the beginning… I was supposed to hit 1 for the special promotion – and give a promo code (DTA4455). I called and talked to someone – and asked them if this was indeed a valid promotion. They assured me it was. I got the Amazon GC and called them back with the number for payment. I was watching my account for the credit that never happened. Then I got my next bill and called DIRECT TV. They validated that they did not call me nor have any promotions like the one I described. And if I call the number now, it just says that this is not an active number right now. I thought I was pretty smart about these scams. Thought I was doing due diligence… Please be aware. I got a call from a man name Donte Briggs on March 28th 2017 claiming that he works for Direct TV (which I am a customer) offering me a 3 month promotional of 70 channels for being a loyal customer for free. He states that this will include the sports channels which normally will be $4.30 a month service fee but he will waive that since we are loyal customers. I proceeded to ask him when will the promotional period end & he said June 26th; as long as I call before then my account will not be charge but if I decide to keep it after the promotional period, it will cost $7.99 a month. I wanted to reiterate everything he was telling me & wanted to ask him what channels the promotion consists of but he hung up on me. I tried calling back the phone number (1-877-371-9094) but it went straight to a voicemail/message stating "we apologize but all of our Direct TV representative is with a customer, please leave a message and a representative will contact you as soon as possible". I looked up this number on white pages and this number was flagged a high level of scam. I called another number I had associated with Direct TV to verify if anyone noted my account about the promotion. Direct TV informed me that they do not call their customers for promotions. I had informed Direct TV about the call that I received. I do recall that the scammer had asked me to pronounce my last name (which I did) but I don’t recall giving him any information such as account numbers, etc. I did also report it to my local Attorney General Office for Consumer Report.

Scammer Called saying he was Direct TV and proceeded to re-start my tv. Then said he was pulling up my

billing information and I was being recorded. Asked for personal information. I asked him to call back on a Direct

TV number rather than on a wireless number. I gave him no personal information. The same male called on Monday

posing as someone from Master Card and said I had several on- line charges during the early hours of the 13th ( today).

I recognized his voice and told him that he was the same guy who called me from Direct TV and he immediately

hung up on me.

Received phone call showing Direct TV as caller. Person asked Mr. or Mrs. Mangham? I replied yes and they hung up. I tried to call number back and a recorded response answered saying it was the Direct TV Response Line, all lines were busy. I was then directed to a voicemail that also had a recorded message saying that the mailbox was full. I called Direct TV to verify the number and they said there was no department with that number.

Called with my Direct TV account number to upgrade and discount my monthly charge. Wanted a $300 upfront fee that would pay by Direct TV for 5 months. When I called with the payment gave me a payment reference number and said they would call me with a confirmation number. This was on January 7, 2017. Did not receive any further calls and when I called January 9, 2017, put me on hold and never came back on the phone. Called my usual Direct TV number and they informed me they did not have a promotion sponsored by Amazon. I have Called the 888 905-4846 several times and the recording greet is Direct TV. The number was still working today, January 10, 2017, at 12:15 pm

A female with Dish Network shirt and she stated she was from Dish Network came to the door and stated Dish was charging me to much for cable television. She then stated she could save me money by changing to DirecTV. I stated I had a contract with Dish. She stated that that did not matter she could set up DirecTV for less. She called someone who came an hour later and set up the DirecTV items. I called Dish to cancel I was told it would cost 340.00 to cancel and spoke with them about what happened. I chose to stay with Dish due to finding out the lady was not a representative for Dish. I contacted DirecTV and told them I was upset about what happened and wanted to cancel the order. DirecTV stated they would have to charge me 460.00 and would not take payments.
