Type of a scam Online Purchase
I am an artist. I received and email from a man claiming to be interested in purchasing a painting from my website – actually he wanted two, but one is no longer available. He claimed he was being transferred to Turkey by his company in 3 weeks. He wanted to send me a check for my painting and also for his mover fees. I was to cash the check and keep my part and send the rest to the "shipper". I explained that I could not do that because I could only accept payment for my work, because of income tax requirements. By that point I began to suspect a scam. I found his name, email address and the same story he told me on an artists blog about art scams. This kind of thing has become very popular now that more artists are selling their work online and setting up websites.
