Type of a scam Tech Support

I was contacted by phone on Friday, May 11th. He pretended to tell me all of the things that went wrong in my system by a hacker who entered my computer on May 1st. He listed for me all of the things he needed to "fix", (I printed out the page) He said it wouldn’t cost anything, it was covered under my warranties. The solution called for the System ID# had to be changed so that they could no longer have access to all of my files and documents. He wanted STEAM gift cards in the amount of $200.00. He was going to refund the money the next day with a check written out to me and sent by UPS. He said those cards were corrupted/temporarily blocked. He ask me to get more, either STREAM, I-tunes or Google. I had no car at that time. He wanted me to purchase them online so the #’s would be sent electronically. No sales went through. It all sounds so obvious now but they were very convincing. They even said his name was the person I use for tech support. They called twice on Monday, i told the i figured out their scam and would not talk to them. My IT guy was able to find out by calling the phone number that they were from Karachi, and Pakistani and his real name was Mohad Yusuf and marketed himself as Adam.
