Type of a scam Rental

This person wrote me from the email addresses and after I inquired about 2 apartment rentals in Cambridge, MA that seemed way too good to be true considering local rent rates. They listed amazing amenities and rental rates. However, the emails I received in response were carbon copies of each other, and were written poorly (as if the person writing was not a native speaker). For example, they featured oddly structured sentences with random capital letters: "I hope you will promise us to take very good care of the Condo. Please get back to me or perhaps experience you have in renting" and " It was due to my husband transfer from work that we left the Unit."

The scammer told a story (from both email addresses, about BOTH apartments) that the couple had to relocate to Illinois for the husband’s (Dan Williams’) work. The story also went on that they couldn’t show the apartment in person and you could look through the windows, and the keys would be shipped in the mail once the rental application was received. Neither apartment was available for viewing and both apartments had the same couple moving out of it to relocate to Illinois. The email said, "We now stay in our new house here in Illinois and also with the keys of the unit, we tried to look for an agent that we could give the keys and document to before we left but we couldn’t see any trusted person and we as well don’t want our unit to be used anyhow in our absent that is why we took it along with us here." If they were so concerned about trustworthy people, why are they suddenly comfortable renting it out to someone without meeting them?

I’ve seen a few instances like this where they say there was no trusted broker to leave the information with, which is pretty clearly a ruse, because Boston is teeming with realtors!
