Type of a scam Credit Cards

Craigslist advertised car locally with many photos and a description. Price seemed low. I responded via email and was given an email which was stated to be this person’s mom, who she had posted it for. I then emailed that person and received a reply that was very suspicious…needing to make a quick sale because her medical team is being sent back to their base for training and she could only communicate via email…and would need to handle this on eBay and ship the car.

Getting info on a truck posted on Craigslist……SCAM!!!!!

E-mail I received from scammer…..

Hi, my name is Patricia. The 1998 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 is still available, priced at $1,200. It has around 56,148 miles, 5.7L V8 Engine, Automatic Transmission, 4-Wheel-Drive. The Chevy is in very good condition. It was never been involved in accidents and never had engine problems. Doesn’t have oil leaks or rust, runs very well. Comes with a clean title, under my name. The only reason for selling is that I really don’t use it anymore and it deserve a better home, I’m a Sergeant in Air Force and I was promoted and transferred and I’m very busy with my deployment.

Sincerely,

U.S. Air Force, *** *** ….. .. …. . . . .

Now I’m here in Minot, North Dakota, at the Air Force Base. The Chevy is already at the eBay warehouse here in Minot along with all the paperwork and the transaction will be done through them. eBay will handle the shipping, the payment, and the paper exchange. The Chevy is ready to be delivered to your place. I think I can have it there at your home address within 2-3 working days, You will have free shipping and 5 days to test-drive and inspect the truck before I receive any money. If you are really interested in buying my truck, please reply with your full name, a delivery address and a phone #. I will forward this info to eBay and they will contact you with all the info on how to buy it.

Thanks. I will wait for your reply

As I’ve said, I’m serving the USAF and unfortunately I have very restrictive work condition here at the base, we are not allowed to go out of the unit, besides we’re allowed only emails or text due to security reasons so I can not call you or close this deal in person. Hopefully you can understand me. Besides, shipping is already paid by me so you don’t have to worry about that. I’ll explain you how it works:

1. I will open the transaction with eBay and they will send the invoice to you.

2. You have to make the payment to eBay and they will deposit the money into their trusted account.

3. eBay confirms to me that the amount has been received and then start the shipping.

4. You accept delivery and inform eBay if you’re satisfied or not with the vehicle received.

5. Then eBay Financial Department will release the money to me and the deal is closed.

As you can see, you will receive the chevy BEFORE any money is released to me. From the moment you receive it you have 5 days to inspect it. If is not like I said or something is not OK with it you can reject it (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my chevy is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) and eBay will fully refund you and the vehicle will be shipped back to me, on my expense. eBay will transfer the money to me ONLY after you will confirm them that the chevy is OK. Until then, the money will be safe kept by eBay and not released to me. If you are serious and have sufficient money to buy it then I will need your full name, full address and phone number and we can take it from there. Looking forward to your reply.

Type of a scam Other

I went on Craig’s List and found a 2BR 1BR house for rent in Memphis. A man by the name of Mr Garrett texted me and then called me about

the house for rent. He said he was the owner and moved out of town and put his house up for rent for $495 a month. He instructed me to go to

Walmart and purchase a moneygram for $600 (down payment). He also emailed me the contract for the application. He wanted me to call him when the moneygram was purchased. Then he would send me the keys to the house via FedEx and also furnish me with the lease. I was skeptical so I called the BBB.

per letter from consumer received 15 FEB 18-he advertised a 19th century chest on Craig’s List 4 sale @$999. Received txt from following 3 numbers 863-855-4168 501-486-0783 919-230-4634. Consumer states in letter to BBB, believe them to be a scam as all 3 said price and condition are ok. Will send you money and have it picked up by someone else. Same type wording as I received last year trying to sell a car, which was a scam. Did remove the listing from Craig’s list after the third txt. Thought you should be aware of these.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I wanted to report a Craig’s List scam. I advertised some of my stereo

equipment on Craig’s List for $350. Subwoofer. I was contacted by E mail from Nelson Cassidy. I still have the E mail link. I saved several E mails that I can forward Wanted to buy the sub woofer. Said he was out of town and would send a check. I told him to send it to my work not home. I received a certified cashiers check for $1850. I called the bank where it was issued from. The bank told me it was a fraudulent check. They asked if it was from Craigs List. I took the check to the Olmsted Falls police and filled out a police report. The scammer would have me cash the overpayment check and I would send equipment. I would have overpaid and send check for the difference. Reporting the scam.

A person responded to our Craigslist advertisement in which they said they wanted to buy and then sent an e-mail claiming to be from PayPal that assured us the money would be transferred just as soon as we completed a $350.00 transaction to the person who would be delivering the item sold.
