It started with an automated phone call stating this is the second time they have tried to contact me and that if I did not call back and deal with it that the RCMP would pick me up on a warrant. Once I called back they asked me to confirm my info. Name, address, city. They then went on listing what "Criminal codes" I broke and that there was a warrant for my arrest and if I took it to court I would owe $7000+ and also receive 5 years in jail. Or I could pay my outstanding balance of $5598.

This number had contacted me via telephone. Unaware at the time, j called the number back as it was shown as a ‘missed call’.
The man on the other end identified himself as an agent working for the CRA. Claiming that I had wrong calculations in my income tax returns from the last 3 years (I know I didn’t). I told him CRA doesn’t call people. He went on the ask my postal code, last name. Also asked if I was available to go over my ‘record’, & asked if I had a lawyer to help me with this case.
This is a huge scam, they are trying to scare people into giving their personal information. There’s way too many CRA scams out there! It’s crazy.

I received multiple phone messages from a robotic female voice saying that the CRA enforcement executed by the Canadian treasury intending your serious attention ignoring this will be 2nd attempt to avoid a appearance before a judge or grand jury for a federal criminal offense this is final attempt to reach you to resolve this issue immediately and to speak to a federal agent call back number 1289 218 9780 so I called it back after listening to the don’t worry be happy jingle and someone asking me if I had money then hanging up on the 20th try I finally got through I did speak to someone he was confused at first until I told him that I received a message regarding the CRA and a court appearance then he asked me my name so I just made one up with a fake address and postal code he put me on hold a looked up my file he came back after 30 seconds then he identified himself as Nathan Brown CRA officer 147833 then he told me I defrauded the CRA out of $7988.00 and with the penalty it was now $9788.00 and if I didn’t pay he would contact our local RCMP because there is a arrest warrant out for me with a 5 year prison term so how would you like to handle this he asked ,, do you have a lawyer I told him yes then he said that if I wanted to go to court and fight this that a RCMP will come and arrest me today and I would be put in jail until the court date and because the CRA has such strong evidence against me I would be in jail for 5 year’s so again he asked me how I wanted to handle this ,, so I told him that I would be happy to do the 5 year’s in jail,, there was a few moments of silence he said pardon thats when I asked him how many people do you scam a day and without hesitation he said atleast 2-3 people a day I told him that he should be ashamed of himself for doing that then he said I guess you know its a scam I said yes right from the start then he thanked me for not swearing at him or yelling at him like alot of people do then he proceeded to give me a lengthy apology saying he was sorry for trying to scam me, I told him there’s better ways to make a living and he should move on and try one he apologized once again for trying to scam me and they would stop calling me then he said goodbye ,, it was a weird phone call

Call from a person with a South Asian accent who called himself "Bill Watson" who claimed to be from the CRA with badge #417 727 41
claimed my mother in law had an warrant out for her arrest for tax payments in arrears. The base amount was $4000 + $97,000 in penalties.
Claim continued that the RCMP could be "at your front door at anytime to arrest you…"

I called back and the person receive the call told me he is calling from the Canada Revenue Agency. I told him that he is lying and I am going to report him to the proper authority. He was swearing. Anyway this is a similar scammer which was broadcasted by CBC at marketplace. Beware, these scammers are still out there.

I received a voice mail on my Phone on August 3, 2018 @ around 12:00 stating that i owe back taxes and if i had not paid it will result in an issue of my arrest, where i will be held in custody for 7 days and would have to pay lawyers fees etc. I called back that number. I was frightened, anxious, nervous and felt a ton of other emotions while going through this evil scenario. Following his exact instructions, i paid the scammer $3,820.00 cash through a bitcoin machine. Had my bank adviser not question my suspicious activity i would of forked over another $8,000.00. The phone call was dark, scary and they made me feel as though this is the end of the line and i would be going to jail. As my better judgment and questions had not kicked in earlier and in the mindset of full chaos and panic i made the dumbest mistake of my life and followed through with payment instructions. The scammer kept me on the phone, told me that as this was a highly sensitive and confidential case i am not to share any information with anyone around me, not even the professionals at the bank – i did not in any shape or form share any of my personal information – they did ask for the postal code of the bank once i had gotten cash. They had asked me for my personal information including my SIN number WHICH IS NOT CRA PRACTICE! and i did question that, and did not give them that information, and the scammer got aggressive again not in the right state of mind due to overwhelming emotions, the scammer worded his next phrase & moved on to the instructions of rectifying the situation of my unpaid taxes – the only reason i fell into this plot so badly was because i am not very well educated on tax procedures and i have had issues in the past where i had minor errors on my tax forms. After realizing how badly i messed up , i cancelled my Credit Card and informed the Credit card security department, filed a police report, reported it to the fraud the department to Government of Canada website. At this point i dont know what else i can possibly do, i will not get that money back but I’ve gained more than enough torture to know what i WILL NOT DO NEXT TIME.

I turned on my cell phone and there was a voice message to call the CRA and left phone #226-401-1191. Gentlemens voice said must call the CRA and if I do not it is federal crime. I would have to appear before magistrate judge to pay any fines. I do not owe government any $$$.
Please note I do not give out my cell phone # to any government agencies or businesses that I do not deal with.
In fact I do not give to any stores that I deal with as my phone if for emergency use only.

Phone call seems like it is automated because it was a voicemail and it cuts in halfway through the message. The individual says that I need to either respond with a phone call or get an attorney to call. They say they are Officer Robert (the rest of the name is hard to hear). The individual has a British or Australian accent. They advise if I do not call back immediately they will continue with legal action.
Red Flags: Why is an officer calling me about some vague legal action, They normally give their name very clear with the department they work in. The legal action was vague, no details. Threatening that legal action would be taken if I did not respond. What kind of legal action? When I looked up the phone number online I see others with the same phone number with the same vague legal threats

This scammer called me from various numbers including 778-767-0578, 604-409-0781 and 1-800-829-8281. Beware! They call claiming that you owe the CRA taxes, state an amount, then threaten to send out an arrest warrant via the RCMP. I spoke to two people who threatened me. They directed me to a Bitcoin ATM at Saffron’s Restaurant, 681 Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg. I will be suing Bitcoin for recovery of monies scammed from me.

Reverse looked up the phone number and it is not from the CRA. Also called the CRA to confirm there is not issues on my account.

I received a phone call with the identification "Texas", March 29/18 at 12:19 PM, but since I was not home, a message was left on the answering machine. The male voice I recognized as from India telling me that there is a legal proceeding against my name because I have failed to pay my taxes to the CRA and if I didn’t respond within 24 hours, they would be marking a lien on my assets and bank account. To stop this action, I was to call the number above and a tax collection agent and investigation officer will be there to help me prepare the paper work.

I ended up falling for this for about 5 hours as they have you drive to convenience stores, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart to find these gift cards being Steam and buy $1,000 worth, then another $1400 worth, then again another $1500 and they try to keep on going with more reasons that need to be paid now so that the cops don’t show up at your door to arrest you right away.
Absolutely humiliating experience to fall for and have to deal with trying to come up with this money to pay back credit cards with.
I have emailed Valve Corporation stating my case as well as demanding restitution for monies I paid to buy these Steam gift cards. They were all scratched off and codes given to these scam CRA people. There is no way that Steam can’t tell what is going on as I am now aware that this is a well known scam happening. I plan on suing them for losses and damages. As if Steam can not tell that a large purchase was just made by their cards as they are all given activation codes, and immediately within 5-10 minutes claimed online on a computer that is who knows where in the world.
Thankfully my credit card company informed me of what was happening so I was able to somewhat curtail my losses at that point. Credit cad compnaies know, there is no way a massive company such as Steam?Valve wouldn’t be able to instantly tell as well.

I answered the phone to a recording saying I was being investigated by the government and that I needed to call this number immediately to take care of what I owe.I immediately blocked the number, I never call the number, or click on the email, they try to scare you into contacting them or listening to them. Always go to the website (like Cra) or call the website number, you can’t be to careful.

I had a random number call me and leave me a voicemail saying it was the CRA and there was a warrant out for my arrest because of unpaid taxes. It had a number to call back. I ignored the voicemail and then I received another call with a local area code that I thought could be a possible job interview. When I answered, the man replied "do you want to play a game?". Unsure of this call, I decided to go along with it, I replied "yes". The man on the other end then hung up the phone right after I heard a few beeps. Instantly I was panicking. I thought to my self, what "What is going on?". Within 5 minutes, I received 4 more calls!!! I checked my voice mail and there was 2 new ones; one with inaudible noise and the second was the same man who I heard speak before saying "I have all your information now" and hung up.
Frantically I got into my car and drove right to the bank to get a new debit card and called visa to get a new card as well.

I called the number and was answered with Canada Revenue Agency. He asked for my name and I refused saying how do I know you are legit. He then said in about an hour the RCMP will be knocking at my door to explain better than he could.
This is now the third time I have had these calls.

The call ends and I have never called this number because I know I have no problems with the C R A.
I phoned the London City Police at *** *** and was told by a Constable *** (the name may be misspelled) that this was a scam and to ignore it. I asked to have the number called by him but he refused because he knew it was an ongoing scam. I was NOT satisfied.
I called Bell Canada at *** and was connected to a *** who also said it was a fraudulent scam and just to ignore it. I also asked him to call the 613-519-4446 number but instead he gave me your phone number (***) and the link to your website at the Canadian Anti-Fraud Institute (more or less?)
I want these people contacted and have my phone number removed from their directory and them to be shut down completely.

I received a phone called from a supposed fraud investigator calling on behalf of Revenue Canada Agency to collect $1888 immediately. This amount they said is the figure quoted to them by CRA, itself. Further, they said, "Otherwise, they will call the police to have me arrested immediately".
This person, also, asked for my address, but did not ask for my suite number. I was so in shock that I didn’t connect the dots, at this point..
The voice sounded like a South Asian male in his mid twenties. He sounded so genuine and authentic and obviously familiar with the nuances of Canadian culture to some degree. He spoke with an authoritative voice. His phone manner was polite, but assertive, like he had done this sort of thing many, many times before. Reminds me of government workers to tell you the truth, following a script.
They asked for my postal code and address and social insurance number as well.
I feel embarrassed to have complied with their requests. I dread the thought that my identification has been compromised, and stolen.

I received a phone message from a person identifying themselves as a CRA agent. Craig Williams.
He was very rude, scary and urgent. He stated that if I didn’t return his phone immediately then he would have no choice but to contact my lawyer. If I didn’t return the phone call he said he could only wish me well of what was going to fall on me.

Gentleman called to yell at me that the cops were coming to take me to the courthouse because I was being charged with Federal Tax Laws. His name was Mike Henry and his "badge" was He told me I wasn’t allowed to speak with anyone else that this would be admitting my guilt. He screamed and yelled (I do not believe this is how our government officials behave) and said I could make this stop if I just paid him $9785.00. Please be aware… he is very threatening and extremely aggresive. He certainly gets your heart beating. It is tax time and I believe this scam is only the start of the tax scams.

A lady called claiming to be from the CRA but was asking too many questions so i asked to call her back. She gave me the number listed above and asked me to refer to Payroll Account #XXXX (and they actually knew my correct CRA Payroll Account number which is frightening).
When I call the 1-800 number it said it’d been changed and put me through to a message stating "the number you are being put through to and which will show up on your bill is 1-807 …" and I hung up immediately.

Have a call that hit my answering machine from a lady with an East Indian accent saying she is from CRA. There is a lawsuit registered under my name. I need to call 855 550 1255 before an arrest warrant will be issued in my name.

I received a call this morning from someone claiming to be from the C.R.A.( Canada Revenue Service) claiming that there was an issue of some sort…..the recording was very grainy.
The recording said I had 24 hours to call back to this number 1-855-550-1255 and if I failed to do so a warrant for my arrest would be issued.
I know this is a scam and they are using scare tactics, would be interested to see it followed up on.

Several calls and voice mails. I hung up on him twice, not sure how many times others did too. Over last part of August and through out September. Sounded like the same guy was escalating each time he left a message,. Early morning, late evening, weekends. I was to call as they had a warrant for me. I was to be arrested right away. Here’s the thing, pepple need to know the CRA is a 9 to 5 federal job, most times if you really do need to contact them its central or eastern time. Multiple messages left on home phone stating to contact the office of Officer Ryan Smith for a possible Tax Fraud associated with my CRA Acct. CRA does not and will not leave a pre-recorded message to contact them regarding such issues. The # to call them back at is 855-979-6484 and a person with a heavy Asian or Middle Eastern accent will answer the phone as Alan Rogers & or another alias….don’t buy into this scam. They are phishing for lots of information and will ask for your phone number of where the message was left as well as a SIN#..DO NOT GIVE THE SIN# out!! They will then proceed to collect other information and if they detect that you are trying to locate them or question them on anything they will hang up. Better so as these individuals are just trying to get information or your CC# and looking to rip you off. Just keep reporting and hopefully the proper authorities can locate arrest and prosecute!!

The caller identified himself as calling from the CRA saying his name was Nathan Brook, that it was a matter of immediate urgency and asking me or my attorney to call immediately or there would be great consequences.

Several times a day a voice mail is left saying that it is the CRA and either myself or my lawyer has to get in touch immedieatly concerning our tax evasion. If i dont call then the CRA will be taking me to court to prosecute for tax evasion. I called the number several times and spoke to Benjamin (who gave me some CRA number to prove he was legit but when i asked him to slow down so i could write it down he got angry and told me not to call the number again and hung up. I called back and said i knew it wasnt CRA and he again got very angry and yelled at me for calling him back, i proeeded to tell him to stop leaving messages on the phone and he hung up again. Since then we are still getting messages left on teh phone saying we will be prosecuted.

Machine created voice message has been calling through the day for several months now. Says its Revenue Canada and unpaid debt. These calls showed up as Bell Canada on the call display. This last recorded message says if we don’t call their will be an issue arrest warrant. To avoid this call 613-704-4498. 6 separate phone calls from 613 area code phone numbers during the last two weeks sking me to call various phone numbers in the 613 area code. The messages stated some urgency in my calling because someone was trying to get information about an income tax evasion claim against me?????
I answered 2 of the calls, just listened to the message and hung up. The other 4 calls went straight to my voice mail and I deleted them.
I felt if the CRA was trying to reach me it would be by letter, or they would at least leave a toll free number . It sounded fishy to me so I ignored the messages – but felt I should report it to someone. Since the CRA website is too confusing to find a contact # for scams, you are it.

I received a voicemail today (8 March 2016) telling me to call someone called Shawn at 1-613-707-0545 because there is a case being filed against me by the CRA. I called the number back within 5 minutes and someone else answered the phone so I asked for Shawn. I was asked for my name then put on hold for about 30 seconds. The same woman then returned to the phone and told me my tax returns were a mess and that there were many mistakes in it and that I needed to get an attorney. When I suggested this might be a scam call she became very aggressive saying "Have I asked you for any personal information? Have I asked you for any credit card information? How dare you accuse me of being a scam caller." and so on and so on. When I said "I’m sorry" her response was "I think so!". She then asked for the name of my criminal attorney. When I said I did not have one she said I had better get one fast and call her back.
At no time did she or the other caller say "Canada Revenue Agency" – they just said "CRA" like I should know what that meant.
I called my accountant who advised me that this is a hoax and to be very careful if I am contacted again. They had received at least 5 calls today asking for advice about exactly the same kind of unsolicited call. They told me that the Canada Revenue Agency will NEVER call you by phone – they will send you a letter.
I was so frightened by this experience that I could not think straight for several hours afterwards. I’m still rather shaken.

Yesterday (March 4, 2016) while we were out, on 2 occasions on the same day, we returned to a voice message from someone (last name "Foster") claiming to be a CRA officer and warning us not to try to ignore the call but to call CRA at 613 707 0072. We had heard reports of this on the news and so just deleted the messages.

A male speaking with an accent identified himself as " SHawn White " , from the CRA informing me that I am facing legal action if I or my lawyer do not immediately call him back at 613 909 0272. An automated voice calls from number 844-385-9043 saying that you owe and that legal proceedings will ensue with liens against your assets. I don’t owe anything – plus Revenue Canada doesn’t operate that way. There would be a long paper trail before any legal proceedings and we’ve received no letters at all from the CRA. When I called the number back, I was able to confirm it was a scam because the person they mentioned who owed money has been dead for five years.

Received a call on my cell phone, the calling number was displayed, stating it was Revenue Canada and I was facing Criminal Charges and needed to call immediatley to the number given (also the phone number displayed).
I did not call the number, I called Revenue Canada and BBB – Revenue Canada would notify by written documentation any charges etc., not ever by phone. I don’t know if the scammers were trying to get me to pay any funds to clear my name, but I think that was the scammers intent.

Got a call today that said:
“My name is officer Jonathan Knight from CRA, that is Canada Revenue Agency. The matter in hand is extremely time sensitive, and needs your urgent concentration for the same. The reason for the urgency is that we have found misconduct on your tax papers, because of which you are found fallacious, and under federal investigation. Don’t try to disregard the message or else it will be seen as an offense from your end. Give me a call back as soon as possible. Again, this is officer Jonathan Knight from Canada Revenue Agency.”
The phone number 613-366-3408 appears to be from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, but those numbers can be, and usually are, spoofed.

Voice message receiveced claiming to be CRA, and for me to call 289-460-4252 to resolve. I called, and person claiming to be Mike Reid of CRA alerting me that I was about to be criminally charged for fraudulent tax filings and back taxes in the amount of $3,865 for years 2009-2014. He had my address and phone #, and said that I should get a lawyer. I said that I was confident in my taxes I filed and that I was a financial professional–he then hung up on me. He had a foreign accent (East Indian?)

$4280.00 -must be cash! Via EFTPS ( a USA IRS collection only ) money gram via . Got my cell #and wanted me to go to Canada Post , stay on the line and follow instructions, tell no one what’s up or charges would be immediate. I played along, had to go to a bank ( an hour away – they told me where the nearest one, Cibc, was, (I don’t bank there ) and wanted me to drive there, stay on my cell . I said no and argued, I got them to call back in an hour, called the RCMP , was informed of fraud.
( i knew ) They called back – gift the pleasure of telling them what they were and where they could go.

An odd-sounding automated male with a peculiar asian accent trying to speak with an american accent left a voice male message on my home phone voice mail. Here is what the "person" said:
CRA. And this message is for you. The very second you receive this message, I need you, or your "retain" attorney "a frackered" to return the call. They "shoe" attend is extremely time sensitive. My name is officer Brian John and hotline to my "degreessan" is 647 931 5203. I repeat that 647 931 5203. Don’t try to disregard this message and do return the call. Now, if you don’t return the call and I don’t hear from your attorney either, the only thing I can do is wish you good luck as the situation unfolds on you. Goodbye and have a great day.

Call display said CRA with a 1-800 number. The woman asked if I was *** ***, I said yes, then she claimed to be from the CRA and asked me to verify my address. Red flag: My legal name on CRA for,s is not *** ***, I would expect the CRA to use the name as it appears on the tax returns. Second, why would they not send a letter as they normally when they have something to tell me? I said I though she was a scam and she insisted she was the CRA and that I could telephone the number that was on the call display to verify. I hung up and googled that number and found others had reported the same scam call.

A female with an Asian or Phillipino accent left a message on my answering machine at 9:30P.M. claiming to be "Officer Annualson" from Canada Revenue Agency. She says there are 3 outstanding CRA offences pending and you must call her back immediately or else she will start legal action against you. Voice recording telling me I owe the CRA. I have received at least 10 calls from the same number which included threats of fines or imprisonment.

Calls were recorded messages that did not ask for anyone by name. They demanded that I call 343-885-8019 which I did not as this number when googled shows it has been used for this scam over the past month.

Received a missed call and voice mail on my home line from someone purporting to be from CRA claiming my wife and I owed $50,000 in back taxes and they were going to come arrest us and take our house away.
I called the # back – they answered as if they were from the CRA – and said the same things to me. They asked for my address which I gave them. I figured this is listed public knowledge anyway. I DID NOT GIVE ANY OTHER INFORMATION and the guy hung up once I questioned him.
