Two guys, ages (18-22) in street clothes, no ComEd ID, rang my doorbell with nothing but an iPad with a SAMPLE ComEd bill. They asked to see my bill and when I told them no they kept asking incessantly. Time of this was 9pm on a Friday. They didn’t get any info from me but nonetheless it was an unsettling experience.

I received a letter from what was posing to be ***, my electric company, asking if I wanted to participate in a peak times savings program, and if I did to go to this website. I was interested and went to the website and it IMMEDIATELY linked to a spam page saying “your iPhone has been compromised!” with a background of what was obviously a false version of the App Store saying it’ll restore my iPhone if only I pay x amount of money. A reputable and large company like *** would never send me a letter with a scam link included. And I typed the link twice to make sure I was spelling it right. Clearly this is not ***.

This group called to tell me that my business was behind 3 months in *** services owed, $1498.
They told me that there is someone coming to shut down my electrical service within the hour if I
did not go and pay for the service within the hour.
They gave me instructions on how to go to a Jewel-Osco to pay in cash.
I hung up and immediately dialed *** back.
*** informed me that they would never call to threaten shut-off and ask for cash.
The company scamming called me back to ask if the payment had been made.
When I called them out they yelled profanities at me and hung up.

A man, African-American, clean appearance, wearing a bowtie, came to our door asking about our utility on our ComEd bill. He wanted to get us to print out the bill and give it to him. After we started to ask more questions, he started to rush out, rendezvousing with his accomplice a few minutes later on the corner.

Hello. I received a phone call from 847-420-6900 tonight saying they were ComEd trying to get me to sign up for a discount program. When I asked to be taken off the call list, the guy hung up on me. I called the phone number back and it’s a cell phone. I have emailed FTC, ComEd, and now you. This phone number has been calling me for over a year with a different extension. It’s always the same phone number of 847-420-XXXX with the same guy with an accent that hangs up on me when I start talking to him. Please look into this. Thank you.

A person stating they were a representative of ComEd called my elderly mother’s home. The home healthcare worker who answered the phone said that the representative stated that the electricity to the house would be shut off due to past due bills and they needed immediate payment to avoid disconnection. The healthcare worker told the "representative" that she needed to speak with our family and they would call back. They wanted money – how much is indeterminate as when we called back the number provided never stated it was ComEd, so we hung up. We then checked and saw mom’s account is up-to-date, I told the healthcare worker not to answer calls from this number again.

I received a call on 5/16/18 at a doctors office that I work off stating that our electric was going to be turned off in 30 minutes that a truck had been dispatched. I tried getting more information from them but they said my name wasn’t on the account and could talk with me. They intern even repeated my address that I was located at. I said we had patients in the office and to give me time to talk with the Dr. and they gave me the number of 312-582-4644 ext 3504 to call back. The Dr. pulled a ComEd bill and called the number directly on it and asked about it and they said they were aware of the scam. This is disturbing and I think the TV stations in our area should run this story. A lot of elderly people, which most aren’t on social media, that could be on breathing machines, or other medical supplies would then give these people there credit card numbers to pay over the phone.

Also uses 8478587580. This scammer has been active for years calling phone numbers in Chicago area claiming different things, but this time 5/15/18 claiming to be able to dramatically reduce costs if you are a ComEd energy customer on an automated message with touch tone prompts. If you call back the same number (or either number above) you get immediately connected to what sounds like a personal voicemail which could be likely fake/fake name or they may be cloning someone’s number. Please track to the source and shut them down! Thanks.

Two men came to my door claiming to be Comed asking me if I got the update and the letter. When I told him I was unsure of what he was talking about, he asked me if I got the update again. It seemed very odd as he was appearing to work for this company but was speaking in incredibly vague terms. I told him my roommate would be back soon and he should come back then. I don’t plan on answering the door again if he does, but it seemed extremely weird. Especially since the front half of my building is in accessible to just anyone, there was no Comed vehicle and he knocked on my backdoor facing the alley way.

‘Mariana’ calls and asks for a person living in our home. She then states, after assuming that I was the person she asks for, that she is a representative of ComEd and needs me to get my bill and read her the account number. She claims she has a rebate for the account. She says that her phone number is 1-800-210-9011 and that her direct extention is 1388.

A man buzzed every unit in our building until someone let him in the front door. He then went door to door claiming to be from Comed and needed to see my utility bill. I had read about this scam from Comed and BBB in the past so told him to leave the building immediately, to which he replied, "We can go to war over this if you want." I slammed the door in his face and sent an email to all my neighbors warning them this was happening.

Someone claiming to be from ComEd called our business saying that our bill was overdue and they were going to turn off our electricity. He gave me the number of the "customer service" line, who said our only solution was to make a cash payment of $811.90 at a Family Dollar down the street, giving me his direct extension to call so he could "walk us through the payment".

A women claiming to represent ComEd came to our house around 5:30PM stating that our account had been selected to explore alternative energy options (something about solar/windpowered). When asked if the account holder was home, my wife told her that I (her husband) handle the bills and I’d be home any minute. The women claimed she would return some point during the evening as she was "in the area" until 8PM but never came back. My belief is if ComEd had any questions, they would contact me (the primary contact on the account) directly via phone, mail and/or email not face-to-face.

Young woman claiming to be a ComEd rep, comes to my door and asks to see my ComEd bill to explain a new energy saving deduction. I told her I would call the customer service line to handle. She then repeated herself about the new energy saving deduction asking to see my bill again for her to confirm if it had been applied, because according to her it may have already. I told her I did not have a bill available at this time and would need to handle it at a later time. She then repeated herself about the energy saving deduction and said thank you and left. The scammer was in her 20s, about 5"2, slim frame, dark hair, Caucasian, light complexion.

Called practice stating there was a notice sent 10 days prior in the mail and our bill was 2 months behind and our power would be shut off in 45 minutes if we did not make a payment. They gave me a number to their billing department. I called ComEd directly and realized it was a scam and reported it. When i confronted them they hung up. Now this number answers as Eversource, I also contacted this electric company and reported theses scammers.

Scammer was an insistant man with a heavy accent. Even went so far as pretended to "transfer" me to another department. He kept demanding I pay a utility bill I knew I had definitely paid already. He asked for account numbers and check numbers….
Thankfully I knew something was up and didn’t give him any personal information.

Twice now a man or two different men have knocked on my Albany Park neighborhood apartment door (having somehow gotten in the locked street level door) wanting to talk about my electrical account. With #1 we asked to see I.D. and they fled, and the second fled when I said I would call the police.

On Friday, September 8 around 5 p.m. a man knocked at my door. He had a clip board and said he represented ComEd. They said they were making changes in the apartment building that would save residents money. He asked for my current ComEd bill so he could find my account. The process took about 15 minutes. Another representative called me and asked me a bunch of questions that I was told to respond ‘yes’ to.
