Type of a scam Debt Collections
A person from Coastal Processing called my mother and left a message that that their company was trying to get in touch with me about check fraud and that charges were being filed. I called thre number 844-802-0312 back. I was told that this company had been hired because I had defrauded the FDIC by failing to repay an internet loan that I apparently took out 4 years ago. They had the last our digits of my social, my home address, email address, and bank name. They stated that they had tried to contact me about repayment but were unable to contact me and I would be called into court. It was a "courtesy call". They then stated that I might avoid this by repaying the loan company. I asked who the company was and they said they could not give out that info but could take payment for them. When I began to ask questions and became defensive saying I thought this was a scam, the caller became very rude and said I would be embarrassed when the court served me at my work and I could dispute this in court if I didn’t want to pay. She also stated rudely that I didn’t halve money and that was why I wouldn’t pay. I told her I was recording the phone call and would be contacting my lawyer to sue. She stated that I could not use the recording in court. She made many rude comments and hung up. About an hour later, I received a call from this same number asking me to verify information for a fax transmission! I called back and questioned this. The rep said that they were just preparing my papers for court and hung up!!
