Type of a scam Rental
The scammer is offering a house up for rent on Craigslist.org and asked for 800 dollars in deposit and another 800 dollars in first months rent. The scammer claims to be in the process of selling the home, and in the mean time wants to rent it out to qualifying tenants. No background checks, credit checks, or personal information was asked for initially. They demanded the money be transferred via money order to a Cindy Jean Wise in Petaluma, California. Upon further investigation, a called was placed to the scammer, revealing that the number comes from a Kentucky area code, not California where they presume to be residing. I believe this is a quick cash scheme, which fortunately for me i was able to pick up quick. I fear however, that others may be taken advantage of if nothing is done. The gated community has no record of that name in ownership or signed documentation of leasing. Although the house is vacant, it is private property. they are committing housing fraud and should be stopped. It should be noted it is a couple behind the scam. The woman works only as the representative and the husband does all the talking. The only information obtained from them are the email: [email protected] and phone number: (502) 230-1132.
