Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Received a message via Sittercity.com. Claimed to be Nichols Monroe, said his wife was Rhonda Monroe. Stated that he would be moving to Frederick, Maryland from Ohio and that he wanted to hire me to babysit his two children, Mike and Silva. I knew immediately that he was a scammer but pushed for more information, just to see what he would come up with. He claimed to work for CF Jordan Construction. He said that his wife was expecting another child, and they would need childcare three times a week. Claimed his company would send a check to me prior to their arrival in order to pay me “up front” and to buy their groceries so they were prepared when they arrived. Refused to give too many details but did leave a phone number. When I called the number they ignored and it went to voicemail. He said he would only communicate “by text”.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

My daughter was looking for a nanny job on sittercity.com. She was contacted via email by a man named Nicholas Monroe. He told her he works construction and had to move to Omaha from Ohio for a job. He had 2 children 5 y/o named Mike and 3y/o named Silva. Wife named Rhonda is pregnant. Via email he told her he would send her a package with a check to get the apartment ready for them. He stated in the email that the check was for 1680.60 which included her upfront payment of $350.00. She was to deposit the check through her bank ATM or use mobile banking app so it would clear on time. My Daughter did not deposit the check. She was very weary of someone that would not want to meet her first before he would send that kind of money to a stranger!
