Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief
This company sent me a letter claiming they could consolidate my student loan with a lower rate, never mentioning that they charge a fee to do the document preparation. In fact, the letter does not even mention what service they claim to provide, which is document preparation. Then after speaking with them on the phone, I found out that they charge a $799 fee for this service, claiming my loan rate will be much lower and that they provide a service that will save me time and effort of having to do this on my own. After I received confirmation email from them for the documents, the email failed my fraud detection, which led me to put a stop payment on this transaction. My bank could not confirm whether the company is a scam, but they did fully refund my money and the company should not be able to access my account again. However, I am concerned that they will try to access my bank account again via a different service (the account transaction does not have the actual company name, just "Debt Pay Gateway"). I do not know for sure whether this is a scam, but want to report it and put a stop to this company if it is.
