Type of a scam Debt Collections
*** *** ***, LLC called my personal number and said that I was being sued for an unpaid debt from US Bank. A processor sent me to the legal department and I spoke with a Raymond in legal. I was asked for my name and the last four digits of my social security number to verify who they were speaking with. They then explained that I had failed a summons twice before and in order to avoid going to court they would need a settlement for the amount of $300+ from the original amount that I apparently owed, which was $3,300+. They needed payment while I was on the phone and if I could not pay then I could pay partial but it would cost more. Finally, they said if I couldn’t do that I would have to pay $800+ because they charge a $400 fee. I said I would have to have some time to perform my due diligence because I had never received a summons and have never been served with papers requiring me to take any action regarding this matter. The representative was then pushing for me to pay up and that I had plenty of time to do my due diligence. He then said that I could contact US Bank debt relief department and gave me the number and my account number they had on file. I said I would contact him the next day.
This reason I am taking this to the ScamPulse.com is because this was a fraudulent claim in an attempt to steal money from me and besmirch my name. I have never had an account with US Bank and when I called the actual US Bank, this was confirmed that my name and social security number have never been attached to an account with them. The lady on the phone then suggested I call Equifax and the Federal Trade Commission to report this as a debt collections scam. The Cavalry Portfolio Services used misleading language, intimidating verbiage, false documents and dates with the presumption that I owed this debt. I believe they also falsified the number and account number for US Bank that I supposedly owed.
