This number called me at work claiming to be CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) and I couldn’t answer but they left a voicemail telling me to call them back. On my drive home from work I gave them a call where through my car system. He asked for my name then told me things like I owe money or something so I have to appear in court, “Do you have a lawyer?” I was like, ummmm NO! What are you talking about? So he continued, “you didn’t know about this? You have a warrant out for your arrest!” To that I was worried, not thinking about the possibility of a scam in the moment and I repeated “What?” Again while kinda freaking out. To that he replied “what? Are you not listening – are you deaf?” To that I was like “uhh…. if you’re trying to tell me I have a WARRENT for my arrest, that’s very rude to say to someone freaking out” annnnd he hung up on me. This isn’t exactly what was said, but pretty close so I assume they were going to try to get money out of me.

I received two voicemails stating that I had to call back the CRA or else they would place a lien on my property or have me arrested. Once I called back the phone was answered by a person claiming to be someone called "Jimmy Watson". It was very loud and the call kept being dropped. They asked for my address and then advised me that there were "miscalculations on my past tax returns". At this point I said that this was a scam. The person claimed that i would be arrested by the local police at which point i hung up the phone.

Please, could you find those persons who keep calling others on the government name and then kasking them about money.I really feel uncomfortable about that because that doesn’t make any sences. If so that would be very very very appreciated.

Thank you so much.

These folks are based in West Vancouver by the looks of it and will call your cell phone and represent themselves as the CRA when you call them back – I saw missed call and just hit redial – when they answered they answered as Canada Revenue Agency – I told them they were full of it, I was reporting them and hung up. It is baloney CRA does not call people to collect $$ and certainly not from a cell phone. I then noticed they also left a phone message- I listened to it after I called them back – the message was they were going to have me arrested if I did not call them back immediately – again this is ridiculous – the CRA does not "arrest" people.

The caller claimed to be from the Canada Revenue Agency, naming themselves as Officer Tina Wilson Badge Number #417J2741 stating that I have an outstanding tax due of 5,000$ for discrepancies found in previous tax years, and that if I did not comply to resolve, there would be an arrest warrant for me which they would take me to court and fine a total of 97,000$ dollars and send me to jail for. He had an accent so it was hard to understand but the message said he needed to hear from me or my attorney right away or he would have no choice but to…(not exactly sure what he said here as it was hard for me to understand, but I have no doubt it was threatening and intended to make me fearful and contact him).

I have received many calls from the same scammer from different phone numbers. It is always an automated voice messaged claiming to represent the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and that this is their last attempt to contact me, and that I must speak to a federal agent immediately. Got two separate calls. One on Jan 4th 2018 from an Ajax number (+1 289 608 8818) and another Jan 9th 2018 from a Manitoba number (+1 204 817 1322). Received automated voicemail claiming to be CRA, saying there is a lawsuit being filed against me. The message did not provide my name specifically. All it stated was that I would be reported to the police if I don’t call in to (204) 817-1322.

This is clearly an identity/information seeking scam. Do not return this call and do not provide any information whatsoever. This is not the way CRA operates.

Devin –

Type of a scam Debt Collections

Two missed incoming phone calls received to my personal phone, no voicemail left. Phone call was returned to listed number, upon which threats were made regarding an "affidavit" summoning me to court. No affidavit was received in the mail from the institution in question, but the individual on the other end of the line used fear and intimidation to coerce responses and personal information, suggesting to "call a criminal lawyer, or there will be a warrant out for your arrest". I gave them my social insurance number, birthday, name, phone number and address before figuring out that it was a scam; I then promptly hung up the phone and called the institution in question, who then directed me to do some damage control.

Type of a scam Tax Collection

I receive phone call that I am processed with the court for not paying a tax return. I asked why, because I am doing my tax with the professional agency for so many years and never have any problem. I did not get any answer ether, so I tell the guy that I am going ride away to that agency to talk and I will get back to him. Instead of the going to the Tax-return office I went to the Police Station, where I was told that is the scam. The man with whom I was talking about that processes in the court by the telephone was telling me that if I do not pay $4000 I will by home arrested for 1 year and I will loose something else but I did not understand what because the man was speaking with the east accent.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Text just says Canada Revenue Agency has sent your income tax via INTERAC (E-TRANSFER). Confirm here www.agency-interac.gq for a safe deposit. It’s oct 31st and income tax was received back in march/april. Obviously didn’t fall for it, but tired of people being able to even attempt the scam. As far as I’m aware they should be found and hacked and locked from any form of technology use. This persons phone number if it is their actual phone number should be charged and removed from the scammers hands. I doubt anything will come of this, because scammers seem to get away with it more than they get in trouble. But might as well try.

Received phone call, on the line was a recording , the recording told it was Jason calling, from Canada Revenue Agency and that unless I co-operated the police would be arriving shortly to arrest me, it requested that I stay on line. I hung the phone up copied down the number I waited about 15 minutes, then I called back once I got the same message, so I hung the phone up. About 20 minutes later I received a call, this time it was a live person, said his name was Jason, and he was from the CRA, That I owed taxes, and in order to not be arrested I needed to comply, I told the person not to call again, he immediately got aggravated, and told the police would be arriving shortly to arrest me, I then hung the phone up

A person hardly able to speak English, phoned and told me I have committed tax fraud and I need to send them money or I will be arrested and sent to jail tomorrow. Type of a scam Tax Collection

I received a call on Sunday from a woman claiming to be from the Canadian Revenue Agency conducting a survey on my student loan and my experience using their website. The call lasted 10 minutes and the survey consisted of simple yes/no and 1-5 scale questions. What tip me off as it being a scam was actually the woman laughing as she said goodbye.

Luckily I didn’t give out any important information and received no charges for the call itself. I called and confirmed with CRA today that they DO NOT make survey calls. Their surveys are optional ONLY when you call them. The gentlemen made a note of this information along with the phone number: it’s 1-844-627-1117. I have googled this number and everything I find has people saying it’s a scam. I imagine this was simply a call to test to see if I’m susceptible to falling for a scam – I expect their follow up call sooner or later.

Left a voicemail message on our home phone in early May 2016, didn’t say which of us the request for info was directed to. Had a Middle Eastern accent of some sort, male caller, claimed his name was Constable Ryan Smith with Canada Revenue Agency. Said tax fraud was suspected with an income tax return and needed to speak with me/us ASAP, or with a lawyer representing our case. Number left with us to call: 844-395-7953.Neither of us responded. Have had two messages on our phone since: female Robocall/automated voice, no accent, recording starting with a case number. Again, no mention of any names living in the household, but still demands to speak with me/us, or with a lawyer. Number to call back is: 613-706-0542. Neither of us has responded.

I received a message from an automated response claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency. They said that due to the tax we owe they are putting a lien on our assets. In order to stop this from happening we have to call the number back or they will send a debt collector to the house. I knew immediately that this was a scam as I am a tax professional. I know the CRA would never do it like that and I know hat we don’t owe anything.

I also reported this to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Rec’d a call from 844-553-1074 as well as 844-395-7954 and in both cases a recorded voice identified as being with the CRA warned me of being in tax arrears. I was to immediate call back or they would initiate legal action and seize necessary assets.

As I have already rec’d my completed tax assessment for 2015 I knew this was a scam to draw personal information from me.

I had 2 phone calls, both recordings, of a man claiming to be an officer of the Canada Revenue Agency. He was demanding me to call the number provided for a very serious matter. If I don’t call he will be forced to get the attorneys involved and it will be very very bad for me.

I happened to have a matter going on at the same time with the real Canada Revenue Agency and got that agent to check his employee data base. Of course there was no such name listed there and it was a scam.

The date of both calls was April 1/16

Type of a scam Tax Collection

Today Tuesday Sept. 29, 2015, my wife received a message on our telephone voice mail from a man with a thick Chinese accent claiming to be with the Canada Revenue Agency. The call number was from 800-959-8281. He told her that there was a problem with her Income Tax Payment from last year and that a warrant for her arrest had been sworn out. If she wished to resolve this problem before the police acted on this warrant, she should call 613-800-9167 which I believe is an Ottawa number. She did not return the call. We assume this was a scam to collect money under false pretenses.
