Scammer called cell phone and asked if this is "(my name)". I said "Yes" and they hung up. Immediately, I was concerned that I had answered ‘yes’ to a scam caller that would use my recorded ‘yes’ for what is known as "cramming" – using it to authorize charges. Besides that they immediately hung up, a clue was that they said my full first name, which it not used by people that know me. The caller ID number that they supposedly called from was 585-312-1847 at 2:06PM on Tue., 6/19/18 (today). It could be a "spoof" number (not the real number they are calling from). A suggestion to others that receive calls like this asking a question – do NOT say ‘yes’, but say something like "What is the reason for your call". As suggested, we will now have to closely monitor our bills, credit cards, and bank accounts for charges that are not ours.

This is regarding the "yes" phone scam.

On July 21st at 12:30 p.m. I received a phone call from the number 410-204-9385. What sounded like a younger girl was able to trick me into saying "yes." After saying hello, she then said my name, Nicholas. I said yes because she sounded different and more real than the usual "can you hear me" that I’ve gotten before, and I was also expecting a call from someone. After I said yes I quickly realized what was going on and said "no, no who is this." She proceeded to say something like "thanks, ill go ahead and process this." She then hung up. I called the number back but the line was of course not active.

Call asked if I could hear OK, and stupidly I answered "yes". As soon as I did it I thought about what I had done. I had heard about this scam where all the "caller" wanted was to record the person who answered saying "yes" and then to use that recorded response to make charges against accounts owned by the person who answered. I don’t know yet if this will actually lead to a problem with my credit cards, bank, utilities, or anything else but am concerned about the possibilities.

Multiply numbers, but all start with 808. I’ve had calls from ending numbers of 1969, 1975, 1987, 1993, 1978, 1982, 1960, 1971, 1954, 1985. There is a person who says something like : "Hi, this is Joe. I’m calling regarding one of your accounts. This is a record line. Can you hear me ok?" They will sometimes call two times in a row. I’ve picked up a few times, and it’s the same script the person uses, so I reply with "excuse me" and "where are you calling from" and then they hang up.

The number that came up on the caller ID was 607-967-4303 and our home phone number is 607-***-***, so it appeared to be a local number. When I answered "hello" there was some confusion and noise, and the caller said something to the fact that….Oh, I’m sorry, I had to put on my headset, can you hear me ok now? I think I said "what", but I may have said "yes", and she started rattling on a story that I had won a 3 day paid cruise, so at that point, I realized it was a scam call, and I hung up. When answering my cell phone at 5:24 pm on March 3/23/17 the caller asked if this was Sue on the phone. I said "Yes, who is calling" . He responded that it was Brad with the Snow Blowers conference or something to that effect. He continued to babble and then he told me to "hang up the phone". I realized quickly that I was a victim of the Yes scam and refused to hang up because I was unsure why he would be so adamant about it. I decided to stay on the line and muted the phone. The call lasted disconnected after 3 minutes.

I wrote down the number she called me from. When to my cell phone to look up the number & I had no internet service. This was odd, so I went to my computer & again…had no internet service. About 10 minutes later, the internet was working on all our devices.

My son then mentioned, there was a story on the news that you are not suppose to say YES to any type of robo call. I am praying no information was taken or somehow stolen from me.

Re: Scam Alert

Dear Sir/Ma’am,

As I’m sure many others have, I’ve received my share of annoying telemarketer calls, most memorable among them being those from “Josh”.

My first experience with “Josh” (via cell phone) didn’t register as suspicious because I work with a fellow named Josh (didn’t think to check my Caller ID first) and therefore had no reason for any doubt. The call sounded nothing like a robo-call, let alone a scam, and went something like this:

Me: “Hello”

Josh: “Hey Paul, this is Josh. Can you hear

me?”

……and thinking (fellow employee) Josh may have been broken down on the road somewhere……

Me: “Yeah, sure Josh. What’s up?”

At that point “Josh” launched into his hard sell, about what, I didn’t stay on the line long enough to find out. The second “Josh” call I received some months later (via landline), and I immediately hung up. I just hope the next time the REAL Josh calls me, I don’t cut him off.

I made a note of the call as myself and my wife do for ALL unidentifiable or unfamiliar calls. I have a list of these calls should you like them.

The most recent “Josh” call was dialed from (315) 623-0151 and listed the location as Constantia, NY. As with all the others, no Voice Mail was left.

As for the DO NOT CALL registry, warnings to cease and desist go mostly unheeded. It therefore needs to be not only strictly ENFORCED, but EXPANDED to anyone using the phone lines to sell, conduct surveys and solicit money for charities, including POLITICIANS (who are even more annoying and persistent with their dinner time calls, and who are EXEMPT) all of which could be scams disguised as legitimate activities. Senator Schumer was working this, but his efforts seem to have gone by the wayside for some reason.

NOTE: “Josh” just called again as I was typing this correspondence:…..”Medical Alert” from Potsdam, NY…..(315) 274-2432. Again, I didn’t answer and no Voice Mail was left. That’s THREE.

Anyway, I hope that your efforts will get the politicians off their duffs to do something about, not only “Josh”, but the whole damned conspiracy.

Thank you

"Can you hear me" scam. In a hurry, I picked up a call from a local number that when i answered, there was silence. Then it asked quickly, "can you hear me?" I answered yes. Listening carefully since it was soft sound, it said my warranty was expiring, did I want to continue it? I said no and it hung up. Then I thought it was a machine voice and called the number back to verify it. It said message was complete and press 9 to be taken off the call list. I hit 9 and it hung up.
