Type of a scam Credit Cards

This caller said that they were working with Experian and a list of credit card companies: Capital One, American Express, Visa, etc. I noticed the location of the call (Wilmington, VA), as I was waiting for another call.

The caller said that she was contacted me to help lower my credit card interest rate as I had been a good customer, paying on time and sometimes more than the minimum payment required. As Capital One was one of the first credit cards she mentioned, I thought that’s who she represented.

I asked her again where she was calling from, she said she was working with my credit card company.

She then asked how much I owed, the credit card expiration date and I responded that it was not available right now as I was in a meeting. She asked when she could call back.

When she returned the call, it was from a different location and number (now from Jacksonville, FL). She asked why I wasn’t picking up the phone immediately. I responded that the meeting was not over and I returned her call, which went to voicemail with no outgoing message. This made me more suspicious.

I then asked her again who she was working for. She said she worked for Experian and my credit card company Capital One to help lower my interest rate.

Then she asked what kind of credit card it was, and what number it started with. I started to question her that if she was working with Capital One, she would have the information already. If she was experienced, she would also know that Visa numbers with a 4 (Master Card 5, Amex 3).

I stated that the call made me feel very uncomfortable and would contact Capital One directly. She responded that she could get Capital One on the line. A man’s voice came on saying he was from Capital One. I could hear her in the background and then she came back on the phone. I said that I was concerned, uncomfortable by the call and felt that it appeared fraudulent. She began to raise her voice, made insults and use profanity.

I told her I was reporting her to the authorities and I then called my credit card company.
