Type of a scam Rental

The rental was offered on Hotpads. I contacted the owner. He emailed me back and indicated he was an engineer on a cruise ship and was away at sea most of the time so Air BnB managed the property for him. He sent a link to the Air BnB site and Air BnB asked me to pay the deposit plus a fee before they would show the property. The site looked like a genuine Air BnB site. I was going to pay the fee with my credit card but they asked if I would create a BitCoin account and pay through that method. That is when I became suspicious and did not continue the transaction. In addition, I did Google the property and it was listed as rental with a reputable real estate agent in the area. There were many factors that did not add up. I even had questions for Air BnB and chatted through a live chat with a "representative" which made it even more genuine.
