Type of a scam Employment
I applied for an at-home position at Devon Energy (supposedly a subsection of BNL Clean Energy) that was listed on Interships.com. The next day, May 24th, I got an email reply stating they wanted to set up an interview with me via Google Hangout or Skype with Mr. Moore. I started the conversation with Mr. Moore regarding the position. A while after the email arrived, I got text messages from a Sarah Brown regarding the interview with Mr. Moore. I checked out the company and it looked like it was a start-up so I had some concerns but figured, after checking about the company online, I should continue. My first red flag was the first check they sent. The amount was $2,700. I shredded it as instructed due to it being over the limit for deposit for my bank. I continued chatting with Mr. Moore about the job. This brings us to today, May 27th. I was given my "assessment" on how I did on a task and I asked what system they used to grade me. Mr. Moore replied "G1 Tracker". I did a Google search on this and it came up with a few threads with job scams that looks nearly identical to how my chat with Mr. Moore had been. This was the final red flag for me. Upon receiving the check, I noticed that the amount was still high ($2,450) and that the return address was Folliett Corporation in IL. Folliett Co is a campus bookstore. Furthermore, the package was originally sent from CA. After that, I did not reply to the Google Hangout messages from Mr. Moore and instead got text messages from Sarah Brown asking why I have not responded. I stated that I did not receive the check as I did not want them to think I knew they were frauds. I did not lose any money from this scam as I did not deposit the check, but I lost time that I could have put into other job applications and wanted to inform the authorities about this scam to prevent anyone else from going this far down the rabbit hole for a scam.
